someone messaged me and said that they had A LOT of questions about guarding and sent me a whole list. so i thought why not answer them on here.

is that actually what you wear to work?
yes, i wear a red lifeguard bikini, with nike shorts, and a lifeguard shirt. then when i get to the pool i put on my hip pack.

what is the stand?
the stand is the tall chair that lifeguards sit in to keep watch over the pool.

what is an AED?
an AED is an automated external defibrillator, which we use to shock the heart, when we have an unconscious victim with no heartbeat or oxygen intake.

do you really have to ask for consent to save someone?
with minors, it is up to the parents on whether or not they allow us to help their child, but we always have to get them out of the pool no matter the age. but before actually helping with compressions and oxygen, we need a parents consent.

how many people have to saved personally?
14

what is "passive submerged"?
i get this question a lot, there are three types of drowning victims.
active- where they are still conscious but are struggling to stay above water
passive- where the victim is unconscious and laying on the surface of the water
passive submerged- unconscious and under the water completely.

how old were you when you started lifeguarding?
15

why did you have to use a backboard?
the boy had a suspected neck injury, so when that happens we use a backboard the correct way lol

and lastly

how did you become a lifeguard?
i went through online training, in pool training, CPR training, and first aid training.
