[Y/n's P.O.V.]
When a wandering spirit offers to take part in a bigger part of the community of the dead, they'd expect to be free, wouldn't they? Well, uh, fun fact, you don't.
When an old school staff friend of mine and apparently the fifth of the school mysteries offered to let me stay within his 4PM bookstacks I thought I'd get time to myself, to wander around the school a bit. Nope. I'm forever stuck in the library, organizing the bookstacks whenever needed to.
Boy oh boy is it fun. I get to read. That's it. Well, I shouldn't say 'that's it' because occasionally Tsuchigomori accompanies me in my eternal loneliness, and sometimes helps with the bookstacks since he is the curator and all.
I usually find myself checking my watch over and over because no matter what, ever day at four in the afternoon, Tsuchigomori happily greets me in the 4PM bookstacks, and we have a lot of fun just talking and stuff.
3:57, my watch reads. Just three more minutes of shelving and I'll be freed from the workload for an hour or so, depending on how generous Tsu's feeling. 3:58. God, time was going slow today.
Two more minutes passed, and only now I realize how excited I am to see Tsu every day now that I've noticed time seems to go so slow right before the clock hits 4:00.
I hear footsteps, and by reflex, I begin to smile cheerfully. "Tsu-" I stop myself. Tsuchigomori isn't three people, and definitely not three students.
"Did you hear that?" One of them asks, and I duck behind a shelf of books.
"I wouldn't worry about it," Another voice perks up, this one female.
I take a close look at the three. The girl is Yashiro Nene, I recognize her from her book, as well as the blonde boy, Kou Minamoto. The other... There's no way that's him. But then again, I wouldn't doubt number seven would bind his fate to a human.
I'm snapped out of my thoughts when Yashiro approaches the shelf behind which I'm standing. I hold my breath and float up to one of the tattered cloths hanging from the ceiling so I can stealthily hide on the second floor, where the balcony is fenced off.
I lean over the banister, watching as they look for books. I can't let them meander around, I think, But I'm also powerless...
Just as I'm about to think of a plan to scare them off and out of the bookstacks, Tsuchigomori appears behind me, resting his hand on my shoulder.
"Leave them be," He says as if he could read my thoughts. "I know what they're here for."
"You couldn't mean the-"
"Yes," He interrupts, "The yorishiro."
I gulp. "How will you handle it?"
"Just watch," is all he says, and you did exactly that.
The voices from below were quite muffled, but you could make out the fact that Tsu was asking for one secret from each of the students. I grin. That seems like something he would do.
Eventually, number seven himself speaks up. "I have a question for you, number five of the bookstacks."
Tsuchigomori raises a brow at him. "What about?"
Number seven grins and points in my direction. "Who's that?"
Yashiro turns around at a rapid pace and gasps noisily upon seeing me. "TSUCHIGOMORI-SENSEI, IS THAT YOUR GIRLFRIEND?!" She yells, causing me to flinch, even from all the way up here.
"Y/n," He sighs in an ordering sort of tone, "Come down here."
I float down hesitantly, trying to remain calm. They may recognize you from the staff, but that's okay, right? I mean, I don't think I've ever met any of them outside of the bookstacks, so I should be fine, but what if-
Tsuchigomori clears his throat, indirectly telling me to speak up. "I- I'm Y/n L/n, I help curate th- the bookstacks and the real library, and um, that's it, I think?"
"But are you dating is what we're looking for, here," Says Minamoto.
"N- No! I think... Are we dating?" I ask, looking at the spider-like man.
He grins. "No, we're not. I wonder why you're so forgetful sometimes? But that also reminds me of something..." He says, his voice trailing off as he gets closer to my ear and whispers: "But we'll talk about that later."
So later came, and the Lunar Rock was destroyed. I wait patiently for Tsuchigomori to return as I float absent-mindedly in the library.
I came back to focus on the real world when I felt a light tap on my shoulder, looking down to see Yashiro, with Tsu standing right behind her. "Miss L/n, are you in love with-" She starts, but is pulled away by Minamoto, who seemed to be annoyed with his friend's romantic nature.
"Now, Y/n, back to what we were discussing," Tsuchigomori says, lightly pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "Now that the Lunar Rock has been destroyed, you won't be able to enter the bookstacks, not as of right now, anyway, so I think it's best if you stay with me. I wouldn't want you seen in the library by any students."
"Yeah, that would be a disaster," I reply anxiously.
"But now what I really wanted to do," He says, grinning mischievously.
"Huh?" I question.
Before I'm able to inquire further, his arm wraps around my waist and his lips crash upon mine. "I don't think it would be that bad if we did date," He chimes.
I smile and hug him, burying my face into the crook of his neck. "Me neither."
