Remus Lupin's Goddaughter

{ Chapter 1 }

James and Lily Potter had just welcomed their second child into the world. A daughter.

Cora Lily Potter they named her.

Lily held the baby girl in her arms as she slept soundly, with a warm pink blanket wrapped around her tiny body. James sat beside them, smiling proudly. He kissed Lily's head and looked at his daughter.

"She looks like you, love." He says to Lily.

Lily giggles and kisses Cora's head which was full of brown hair. James's hair to be exact.

"She has your hair..." Lily responds. "And your eyes."

The couple smiled and continued to adore their daughter until it was time to go home.

They arrived home later that evening. James carried the car seat that Cora was sleeping in whilst Lily followed behind. They entered their house and was greeted with the sight of their firstborn, Harry, playing with his godfather, Sirius.

Sirius was a childhood friend of James. They went to school together and have always been close. Sirius smiled as he saw the couple.

"Hey guys! How did it go?" He asked, giving James a hug.

"It went well, thank you." James replied, placing the car seat beside him.

Sirius turned his attention to Lily.

"Lily, you're still looking gorgeous." He says, giving her a gentle hug, not wanting to cause her any pain.

Lily smiles and hugs back.

"Thank you, Sirius. How was Harry?" She asked, kneeling down and picking her son up who squealed and smiled at his mother.

"He was great. Like always. Didn't cause any trouble." Sirius says.

Lily kissed Harry's nose.

"Such a good boy aren't you?" She says to Harry as he laughed.

Sirius smiles and looks down at the car seat.

"Introduce me to the new Potter then." He says.

James kneels down and unstraps Cora and carefully picks her up, not wanting to wake her.

"Meet Cora Lily Potter." He says.

Sirius looks at the baby with a smile.

"She's gorgeous, James. Such a cutie." He says, as he rubs her cheek with his finger. "Remus...come and meet Cora."

James looks over at Remus who had been sitting on the couch the whole time. He smiles at Remus as he stands up and makes his way over to look at Cora. 

Remus had also been childhood friends with James and Sirius. They were close throughout school and had their own little group called, "The Marauders". They become closer and stayed in touch after they graduated.

Remus smiles at Cora.

"She's beautiful..." he says.

"Look Harry, that's your baby sister." Lily says, as she stands besides James.

Harry looks at Cora with curiosity. He tilts his head and points at her and smiles.

"Baby!" He says.

Lily nods.

"Yes Harry. That's baby Cora. Do you like her?" She asked him.

Harry nods and claps his hands, making everyone smile.

"So, who's going to be this lucky lady's godfather?" Sirius asked the couple.

James and Lily looked at each other before Lily nods at him.

"Well...we were considering Remus for that." He says.

Remus was taken aback by this and stares at James.

"M...me? Why me?" He asked.

James smiles.

"Well, you been such a great friend these past years and me and Lily thought you'd be perfect for the part. She needs someone to look up to and we know you'll protect her for us." He says.

Remus was speechless by this point. He tried to say something but no words came out.

"That's if you want to be her godfather. We're not going to make you." James says.

Remus cuts him off.

"No..no. I...I would be honoured to be her godfather. I'm just shocked." He says, chuckling nervously. "I'd never thought I'd...be picked."

James and Lily both smile. Lily walks over to him and places a hand on his back.

"She's lucky to have a man like you as her godfather." She says.

Remus smiles and nods.

"Thank you...both of you. So much!" He says.

"Well, since you're her godfather, I think it's only fair if you get to hold her before me." Sirius says to Remus.

Remus looks at Sirius before looking at James who nods and carefully hands Cora over to him. Remus holds her to his chest, with his arms around her protectively. He stares down at her and smiles.

"Hello...I'm Remus. Your godfather." He says.

Cora let's out a yawn and snuggles deeper into Remus's chest, which made Remus' smile wider.

"I just want to let you know that...I love you and I'll do my absolute best to be the best godfather ever. I hope I can be someone you can look up to and talk about your problems with. You're lucky to have parents like James and Lily. They love you with all their hearts. And I'm so grateful to have friends like them. I can't wait to watch you grow up and become the amazing person you're destined to be."

Everyone smiles as they watch Remus gently rock Cora in his arms.

"I think you guys picked the right person." Sirius says to James and Lily.

The couple smile and nod.

"Oh yes." James says.

For the rest of the night, Remus kept Cora in his arms, not wanting to part from her. James finished Cora's nursery, Lily spent time with Harry whilst Sirius made everyone a cup of tea.

Cora was now awake and was listening to Remus telling stories about him, James and Sirius and their time at school. He told her all about the adventures they went on and the trouble they got into. Her eyes fixed on his as he spoke. It's like she understood what he was saying.

"She's only a few hours old, but it seems like she already adores you." Lily says, smiling at them both.

Remus chuckles and looks at Cora. He places his finger in her tiny palm and her fingers wrapped around his. He smiles and kisses her hand.

"My little Cora..."
