Hazel's POV:

"It's a date."

I couldn't help but laugh at that statement. "Well, if we're going to do this, lets just go." My feet started walking on their own accord towards the waters edge.

"Okay then." he whispered under his breath, barely audible. "So what year is it exactly?"

I turned and stared at him surprise bubbling deep within me. "What happened to you?"

A forced smile came over his face. "Lets just say I've been secluded to the confines of four walls for a while." He rubbed the back of his head in nervousness.

I looked over him looking for any scratches, but only found a rip in his khaki pants. No signs of struggle but there could have been struggles in the mind. "Well, its 2020." I paused. "Do you not know anything about this day and age?"

His eyebrow raised in question, but only shrugged. He looked up at the sun and closed his eyes in pleasure it would seem. "It's quite a lovely day. One I would love to live in forever."

I rolled my eyes at his dramatics and continued to move on without him. Eventually he caught up and stood next to me. "So, this California place. Do you live here or are you visiting?"

"Well. Lets just say I'm a new resident." I looked down, images of Emmy invading my mind and my past life. "But if you have no idea where you are does that mean you have no place to stay?"

He sighed in distress. "This wasn't my choice of being here. I have no recollection on how on earth I got here." He smirked slightly. "My dear ol' sister brought this upon me."

"Well, I have lots of space in my home, so you are welcome to stay there as long as you like. Plus, I live alone so it would be nice to have some company." I haven't lived with someone else since Emmy died. She'd always kept the apartment clean and cooked for me. We were a team.

Once she died, everything reminded me of her and I needed a new start. I first moved to Tennessee, but after a year it just wasn't the place for me. Then, I moved to Texas, Arizona, and finally I've arrived to California. I set up here only a couple months ago and I've come to peace with her being gone.

"That would be pleasant. Thank you." He turned towards me and gave me a great big smile, flashing his pearly white teeth.

"Wow. Out of everything you could've said, I was expecting a little bit more than 'that would be pleasant.'" I sat down right where I stood and placed my feet in the water. The coolness of it bringing me back to the present.

Sitting himself next to me, he questioned, "What brought you here to California?"

Avoiding the question entirely I splashed my feet against the water splashing him right in the face. His laughter rang through my ears and sent butterflies through my stomach. "Oh you will regret that."

He picked me up with ease and I couldn't help but laugh. Suddenly, I was soaring through the air, seeing a smirking boy watching me collide with the water. When I stood up, my drenched clothes felt heavy. "This was a brand new dress." I pouted.

"So, mystery man. What's you name?" I gave him a glare daring him to not answer the question.

He raised his arms in surrender. "I have been so selfish for I know your name, but you do not know mine. The name is Axel." I couldn't help but laugh.

"That name is not very fitting." I covered my mouth at my bluntness and gave him apolegetic eyes.

"No need to feel sorry. You only speak the truth for Axel is not my original name, but before you ask, that is for another time." I only nodded my head.
