We finish our lunch, and we all walk to class. We part ways so that Olivia and Christopher can go to APUSH, and I go to AP Psych. Mrs. Glasby has a large stack of packets on her desk. She tells each of us to take one as we come into the classroom, and take our seat. I pick up my packet, and take my seat. Jasper comes into the classroom, and is about to take a seat next to me when I look him dead in the eye.
"I swear to god if you sit next to me so that you can talk about Olivia I will kick you in the shins," I say seriously. He looks down to see that I'm wearing timberlands today, and takes a seat in the back of the classroom.
"That was amazing," I hear a girl's voice from behind me. I turn around, and see a girl with short red hair, thick glasses, and large green eyes looking at me.
"I'm sorry but I don't believe I know your name," I say racking my brain trying to find a name.
"You're fine," she says. "I'm Finley. I'm a sophomore."
"Oh ok," I say. "This is usually a senior, and junior class."
"Yeah Mrs. Glasby wanted me to take it," she says with a smile. I nod, and turn back to face Mrs. Glasby. She starts class, and I begin taking my notes. The packets she handed us were copies of pages from the DSM. Our homework is to read the packet, and be ready for when we get our case studies. When she dismisses us I start to walk to Spanish when Finley stops me.
"I was wondering if I could give you my number so that if I have trouble with homework I could ask you?"
"Yeah sure," I say. I quickly give her my number, and walk to the top floor of the school to get to Spanish.
After getting to the classroom I pull out the translations I did for homework, and place it in her homework basket. I walk back to my seat, and pull out the grammar packet we were given. She turns on a short film that is completely is Spanish. When the film ends she asks us to write a page on what the film was about. I hand in my page, and the bell wrings to tell us that the day is over.
I walk out to the car, and Olivia quickly joins me. We stand in silence for a moment before she turns to me.
"You're acting different today," she says. "Is something wrong?"
"I have leukemia," I say avoiding eye contact.
"Oh...I'm so sorry."
"Yeah my first chemo got moved up to this week. So I'm going to be loosing my hair quicker than i thought."
"Oh that's horrible," she says. "I'm always here if you need anything."
I turn to her, and I can tell that she is being honest.
"Would you like to come over today?" I ask without a second thought. She smiles at me, and nods her head. We both turn back to see Christopher walking out, and Olivia waves at him. He waves back, and jogs over to us. He unlocks the car, and we all get in.
"Who's doing music now?" I ask.
"You," Olivia says
"But I did it for the way over," I say as I turn back to look at her.
"Yeah, but considering the circumstances I think you should," she says. I shrug, and plug my phone in.
"What circumstances?" Christopher asks looking confused.
"Chemo got moved up to this week."
"Shit."
"Yeah," I say, and turn on Kilby Girl by the backseat lovers. We keep listening to my playlist when we turn onto mine, and Olivia's street.
