I'm laying in bed, and I can't sleep. I toss and turn. Patches jumps off my bed. All of my movement is annoying him. I sit up, and grab my phone. I turn it on, and see a text from Olivia.
"Can I have help with homework for IIE?"
"Why are you starting that this late?"
"I don't know why, but I need help."
I get a facetime request from her, and I pick up.
"What do you need help with?" I ask her.
"I need to analyze this page, and I don't understand a piece of it."
I nod, and she starts reading the excerpt to me. We go back and forth bouncing ideas off of each other. We do this for about 45 minutes until she understands the page she's supposed to analyze.
"Did that help?" I ask. She nods, and smiles. I tell her that I'm going to go to sleep, and she says goodnight before she hangs up. I put my phone back, and set my alarm. I'm finally feeling tired, and I slowly drift into sleep.
I wake up from the sound of my alarm. I turn it off, and stretch my arms as I stand up. My phone dings with a text from Christopher.
"Hey I have a doctors appointment this morning. I can't drive you guys this morning"
I text him back telling that I'll see him later today. I then text Olivia, and ask if she can drive. I continue to get dressed. I'm brushing my teeth when she responds to me.
"Yeah. Why?"
"Christopher has a doctors appointment this morning, and I thought you could drive us today."
I pack my bag, and head downstairs. Olivia texts me back to tell me that she will drive us. I grab a kombucha, and some strawberries from the fridge. I sit at the table, and open my bottle of kombucha, and start to drink it. There is a knock on my door. I walk over to the door, and open it.
I tell Olivia to wait a moment. I grab a sticky note, and tell my dads that I left early. I grab my stuff, and head out the door; locking it behind me. I follow her to her car, and get into the passenger seat. She starts the car, and we drive in silence for a little while.
"Do you want to play any music?" she asks me quietly. I nod, and plug my phone in. I put my music on shuffle. We pull up to a stop light, and I put my hand on the middle console next to hers. I try to move my hand closer to hers, but she pulls away, and places both hands on the steering wheel.
We're driving in silence with the music quietly playing behind us, and i'm trying not to think about the fact that she just yanked her hand away from me. Heartbeats starts playing, and I look over to see that Olivia is blushing.
"I like this song...it's peaceful," she says as she lightly taps her fingertips on the steering wheel.
A few minutes later we pull into the school parking lot. I grab my bag from the back, and she moves to open the door when I lightly touch her arm. She turns back to me, and brings her face so close to mine that I can feel her breath on my cheeks.
"What are you doing?" she asks
"You have an eyelash," I say, and take the eyelash from her cheek, and balance it on my finger.
"Make a wish," she hesitates for a second, and then blows the eyelash from my finger before abruptly getting out of the car. She chases Jasper down, and they talk for a second before he places his arm around her shoulders. They walk into the building together while I sit in the car dumbfounded. After a few seconds I get out of the car, and walk into school. I get to calculus, and take out my homework, and book. More students start to trickle in, and Mr. Lehman takes attendance. He starts explaining the new concept to us, and I feel my eyes start to glaze over. Having math first thing in the morning is horrible. Eventually the bell rings, and I go to Mrs. Bailik's room. I wave to Chris in the hall before going into class.
I sit in my seat, and Olivia silently slides into her seat next to me. We're taking notes, and I feel like leaning over to her, and asking her what the fuck is going on with her. I keep looking at her out of the corner of my eye, and she has her eyes fixed on the board. I look down to see her legs angled away from me.
The bells rings, and Olivia springs from her chair, and is out the door in a flash. In bio Olivia's seat is next to Avery Pisani. Avery is the captain of the cheer team. They're snickering, and Mrs. Galvin snaps her fingers at them a few times. They immediately perk up, and are quiet for the rest of class.
When class is let out this time I'm the one who rushes out of the room. I bump Olivia's shoulder on the way out. I turn back and offer a quick "sorry" before walking into the pottery studio.
"Oh Delilah, thank goodness," says Mr. Keaton. He's sitting on the floor, and all of the jars of glaze are scattered around the floor.
"What's going on here?"
"I need your organizational skills. You weren't planning on throwing today were you?"
I shake my head, and sit on the floor wit him. H hands me his label maker, and I spend the class period labeling and organizing the glazes. I love Mr. Keaton, but staying organized is not his strong suit. I walk out of the classroom to refill my water bottle. I overhear Avery talking to one of her friends.
"Apparently it happened this morning. They talked before coming into school." Said Avery
"But I thought she didn't like Jasper."
"I thought so to, but I guess she changed her mind."
I keep my eyes fixed on the floor, and finish filling up my water before going back into the classroom. I sit back down on the floor. I tell myself to calm down. "You don't know if they're talking about her."
Who am I kidding of course they're talking about her. It doesn't make any sense. She was the one with her arms wrapped around me, and the one who kissed me...right? I sit in my thoughts for a few minutes. What if she didn't want to kiss me? What is she tried to push me away? I have to apologize right? That's why she's avoiding me. I'm pulled from my thoughts when Samantha sits next to me.
"Do you need any help?" she asks quietly.
"You drive here right?" I respond. She nods.
"Would you mind driving me home. My ride just cancelled on me."
"Are you okay with picking up my brother before I drop you off?" I nod. "Then sure. What's your last class?"
"Spanish with Mariana,"
"Ok I'll pick you up there."
"Thank you so much Sam," I say. I pull out my phone, and text Olivia.
"I'm getting a ride with Sam"
I finish labeling, and organizing the glazes. I wash my hands, and clean my area before heading to AIE. Christopher is talking to Mr. Bernard when I walk into the classroom. I sit next to him, and Mr. Bernard goes to his desk.
"Hey I have to talk to you. Are you free to skype at 7 tonight?" Christoper nods, and I turn my attention back to Mr. Bernard, and wait for class to begin.
