Mataka's name in her tribe translates to Arrow.
The five monsters that Mataka faces are all an acroynm for the word Guilt. This was important to the story as she was fighting her own personal demons that left het soul broken.

The Spirit Snow: Unbreaking her heart and learning to feel pain again.
The mountain of Red Rain; Washing her sins away in the blood of the gods.
At the end of the story, she wakes up on her native soil. This means that her spirit is finally saved and she can be with her son again.
