Yeah, she'd been in his place twice now, but she was always just as nervous. Even though he was always absent, it was an unfamiliar feeling to be in someone else's apartment all alone.
So, (Name) tidied up what she could as soon as possible and left immediately each time.
She'd severely underestimated his minimalistic lifestyle, as he really only had the basic necessities, and his apartment was much cleaner already. So there actually wasn't much for her to do, which made her feel guilty. But, she did spend some time with a cat, who she quickly discovered was named 'Rex.' The dog-oriented name suited the black, sleepy cat somehow. It was always a joy to be in the same room as Rex, even if Aizawa himself was never there.
He was busy. She understood. But still, it would be nice to have him there too.
It was a Friday evening when she was on cleaning duty for her classroom, this stayed late after school. (Name) yawned, stretching her arms in the empty classroom as she finished brooming the floor. The window showed a tangerine sky, encrusted with pinks and yellows. She wondered if Aizawa was already home. He said he had a meeting Saturday, so he wouldn't be there either. Oh well.
The hallway was devoid of people as well as she placed the items back in the supply closet where they belonged. For some reason, the broom decided not to cooperate, and she struggled getting it to fit in that thin space among all the other supplies.
"Need a hand?"
She looked at the source of the sound to her right. "Oh, Yamada-Sensei."
The music loving teacher walked over to her, taking charge and somehow instantly fit the broom in the closet. (Name) was in complete awe.
"Not bad, right?" said Yamada, feeling proud of himself.
"Thank you for your help," she smiled.
"Don't mention it, kiddo. How are classes going?" he asked, making light conversation as they walked down the hallway side by side.
"They're fine, but I'm having trouble keeping up with Science and Maths," she chuckled. "I'm gonna try to catch up over the weekend though, I should have a lot of time then." Especially since Aizawa kept doing her job instead.
"Oh, really? That's good," he stuffed a hand in his pocket, walking around like it was nobody's business. "My weekend's full too, but it's not bad at all."
Oh, yeah, Aizawa said they had meetings tomorrow. She was about to mention that, but he spoke up again.
"Me and a few teachers are going drinking tomorrow, since it's been a while and our schedules line up," shrugged Yamada. "The Sports Festival went well, so we'll have some time until the internship and final exams."
That information was shocking. Her eyes widened as she paused, digesting what he'd said.
"Hm?" He must've noticed her surprise and looked back at her. "Oh, sorry, I probably shouldn't be saying that to a student, huh?"
"N-No, that's not it," she waved a hand around as she put on a nervous smile. "It's cool to know what you adults do in your free time. I just thought you guys had a meeting tomorrow."
"Meeting?" he echoed. "We usually have them on Wednesday's, since it's easiest then. What gave you that idea?"
Oh.
"Nothing, I just assumed," (Name) awkwardly cleared her throat as they approached the front of the school. "Well, gotta go. It was nice talking to you, Yamada-Sensei."
"You too, kiddo. Keep up the good work!"
The bustling station was filled with chatter and announcements, yet (Name) felt as though she couldn't hear a thing as she stood with a hand on the rail above her.
Based on what Yamada had said, did that mean that Aizawa-Sensei had been lying? Or was there something she misunderstood? It was confusing, and she didn't understand what this meant.
The speakers clicked to life. "Now departing to..."
The neighborhood was quiet compared to the busy station. Maybe the male just had somewhere else to be? Whatever the case, it certainly didn't concern her, so why did it matter? Why was her stomach twisting in knots over this-whatever it was. It's not like it had anything to do with her.
Suddenly, she tensed up. Yes, it did have something to do with her, she realized. It meant Aizawa was purposefully avoiding being alone with her.
Her phone vibrated as she closed the door to her apartment. Dropping her backpack with ease, she saw it was a message from Mirio.
"Are you free tomorrow? Me and some friends are going to karaoke," said the message. Without thinking about it much, she replied,"maybe, what time?"
The clicking outside alerted her someone was there, and she heard keys jingling on the right side od the wall. She was nervous for some reason, knowing it was the Aizawa who'd been avoiding her, despite agreeing to let her help him. It confused her. Did he hate her? Was she getting on his nerves?
Mirio replied. The meet-up was at noon.
(Name) tossed herself on her bed as she thought about it. She usually checked in his apartment at the same time, and it took less than ten minutes to tidy everything up, which made her feel bad. Maybe she was doing a bad job, which it why it took so little. But he never complained, so she could only assume she wasn't. But if that was the case, would it be alright to do it when she got home? Would he even notice? She had the feeling he wouldn't.
No, she was overthinking. It was a change from her often carefree and cheery behavior, which also confused her. Why was she thinking about it so much? It was making her chest ache.
Lazily, she grabbed the phone that had been laying dormant on her side and typed a message.
"Sorry, maybe another time. I have to do other things tomorrow. Are you free Sunday?"
There, it was casual. That way she could attend to both parties and not feel bad about it. Really, it was best to take a breath, step away from the situation for a minute and find the solution that ends with everyone happy. It was black and white.
He replied while she was scrolling through social media, a little sleepy.
"You've been busy a lot these weekends... Is everything okay?" she murmured the message. "And also, yeah, I am. That'd be cool too, we could hang out together. It's been a while."
His suggestion made her smile. Mirio was a nice guy, and he was very friendly and easy going. Their energies matched up, so it was easy for them to get along. Hanging around him made her relaxed, so she agreed without a second thought.
"That'd be great. We can can go anywhere you want on noon that day," she texted back, and waited for his reply. "...Awesome... Can't wait. What are some places you want to go?"
