Tsuki was returned after a few nights, and Tsubaki thanked Aizawa and the girl that helped him out. After that, students began preparing for final exams before summer.
"Hey, (Last Name), how do you think you did on the math exam?" asked a friend of hers while walking with her.
"I answered every question," (Name) answered sheepishly. "What about you, Neijire?"
"I'm pretty sure I spelled my name wrong," Neijire laughed. "I struggled with part 3, but like you said, at least I answered them all."
(Name) paused. "There was a part 3?"
Someone walked in front in front of the two girls, making them come to a stop. "Hey (Last Name), can I talk to you?"
Summer was approaching quickly.
"Oh, sure," said (Name), although she was confused. It was a classmate she didn't talk to all that much, a male named Souyama.
Neijire giggled. "Well, I'll leave you two alone then."
(Name) internally begged her not to, but Neijire was gone, leaving Souyama and her alone in that empty hallway.
"So, there's a fair in town this week," Souyama began. "You wanna go with me this weekend?"
Souyama was one of those kids that had a lot friends but had a little trouble with teacher sometimes. (Name) got along with everyone, but tried not to make waves and listened to the teachers. Because of that, she didn't think she could consider herself to be his friend, although they chatted from time to time. It seemed sudden though.
"I don't mind," she smiled. Going out would be fun. "What time?"
"Great. At 6 PM, this, uh, Saturday."
"Alright, mind giving me directions?"
It was the middle of the week, so there was quite a bit of time before that. In her eyes, it was just two classmates hanging out who happened to be members of the opposite sex. In other words, (Name) didn't see it as a date.
But her mother would probably be upset if she didn't dress up, wouldn't she?
"Oh, speaking of mom. . ." (Name) mumbled to herself once she jumped on her bed. "I should see her soon." She rolled around. "But I forgot to renew my bus pass, and it's too far to walk. . . I gotta do it before this weekend. Aghhh, what a drag!"
After having spent that night at his place, (Name) frequently conversed with Aizawa whenever she saw him, or more like bothered him. It wasn't unusual for her to talk with him when she passed him in the hallway.
"Morning, Sensei!"
"Oh great, it's you."
"How rude! That's not a very nice thing to say!"
Exams were killing her. She'd spent a lot of time staying up and studying, and she yawned as she rubbed her neck, it ached a little.
"Oh, by the way, how're your students doing for their own exams?" she asked.
"So far, no one's failed the written portion," Aizawa answered. "But that could change with practicals."
"Practicals," she repeated, humming. "Oh yeah, wasn't last year just fighting against robots?"
"Yup," he said with disinterest.
"Then, they're probably doing the same thing this year," she said to herself. He glanced at her, but didn't say anything. Maybe she could tip off that first year that she chatted with from time to time, that ginger Kendo. "How are you handling it, Aizawa-Sensei?"
"I'm not the one that needs to worry about it," he said. "Shouldn't you actually focus on your own exams? You're in your senior year after all."
"Ugh, don't remind me," (Name) pouted. "I'm fine with most of my classes, but I'm dreadful when it comes to science and math. I might end up taking supplementary classes this summer. . . Sadness."
"That sounds like a 'you' problem," Aizawa retorted, looking straight ahead.
"Wuh-You could at least offer to help me out!" (Name) huffed, hands on her hips.
"Don't you have your own teachers to pester?" he said.
The teacher came to a stop in front of the lunch room, and (Name) mindlessly followed him inside.
"But I like you better," she answered. "They're boring to listen to, and you're easier to understand. Even if it's kind of ominous sometimes, but still, I'd rather be in your class."
"I'd rather not give you any more chances to bother me," Aizawa replied, putting a stack of folders on a table. "But if you flunk the year, you might end up with me."
"I can't flunk the year, I already promised my mom is graduate," (Name) crossed her arms, as if she was facing some dilemma.
"Then just take the supplementary classes. Also, this is the teacher's lounge, get out."
"Aizawa-Sensei, sometimes I think you hate me."
But she left anyway.
It was a Thursday when she finally got her pass renewed, and observed the city from her seat on the train. She let out a yawn, eager to get home but knew she had a stop to make before that.
"(Name), you've finally visited again," said her mother, preparing tea from the kitchen.
"I've been busy cramming-I mean, studying for finals," explained (Name), who sat on a table with her head down. She was to face with a family photo sitting on a veranda of the window. "So I haven't had much time. Sorry about that."
"It's fine, it's fine. I'm just glad you're taking it seriously," she said, putting a cup in front of her. "How have classes been going anyway?"
"I. . . might end up failing math and/or science," admitted (Name) with a heavy heart.
"At least you're honest about it," sighed her mom before taking a sip of tea. "But as long as you make up for it and graduate, it's fine."
(Name)'s eyes wandered up to her mom, wrinkled and mature with age. She was quiet, watching the TV alongside her as a movie aired.
"It's not like Alex not to say anything before leaving," said one of the characters.
"Maybe Janet knows what happened?" another character offered.
"No, Janet's the reason he left!" (Name) cried at the TV. "If she didn't stress him out so much, he wouldn't have bailed on everyone! But instead of bailing, he could've talked about his issues with her and work something out! Cheating isn't a good coping mechanism! Aghhh!"
"(Name), you're yelling at the TV again. It's just a movie," her mother eased.
(Name) was pretty much in tears at this point, practically sobbing. "Everyone just. . . Everyone just sucks so much."
While she was there, (Name) helped out with a few other chores in the house. They discussed what happened in their favorite shows most recently while folding laundry and putting it away, and how the neighbor kids were doing as they broomed the floor and washed the dishes. And how her mom's boyfriend was doing, as well as how (Name) would be attending a fair with a classmate.
All in all, it wasn't that bad of a day. (Name) returned home and collapsed on her bed, lights off except for a lamp beside her bed, sitting comfortably on her desk like an inanimate object. Crazy.
It was a bit of a time waster more than anything though, wasn't it?
She turned, putting a pillow over her head. There were better things to be doing at U.A.
