CHAPTER IV: Since When Do The Crown Prince's Affairs Concern This King
Nian was suspicious. Exactly what was happening that would cause the emperor and his subjects to suddenly have such varying expressions? She couldn't help but turn around.
The first thing she was greeted with was the sight of Zing Che was walked in with a frozen smile on his face and a look which expressed that he clearly wanted to be anywhere else but here.
Behind him was the arrogant male whose talents were unrivaled in the entire continent. Nian was sure she was going to see a man walking in beside Che but what greeted her sight instead made her eyes widen in shock.
He came.
Prince Li came.
He really did come to the hall but his arrival was definitely going to be the talk of the region!
CRACK!
"What is the meaning of this?!" The Emperor slammed his hand down on the arm rest so hard that there was a loud cracking sound. "ZING CHE!"
Che's heart trembled as he came to a stop and spoke in a low voice. "Emperor, you were the one who said that it didn't matter what method I use as long as Prince Li comes to the hall..."
"Shut up!" Nian was saw hints of blood dripping onto the ground from how tight the Emperor was clenching his fists. From the look on his face he was a few steps away from strangling Che with his bare hands.
Che didn't say another word. He simply stepped aside. The entire court remained shocked and no one dared to breathe, not even the Great Merchant. Nian seemed to be the only one who had some form of calmness.
After Che entered, behind him were six imperial guards who were carrying a palanquin upon their shoulders and a person was lying in deep sleep. The bed was luxurious and had dark red drapes with gold embroidery hanging from the top of its poster structure.
They were drawn closed but it evident that there was someone inside. Even though the Emperor had been shouting at the top of his voice, the person on the bed remained undisturbed without any intention of waking up.
What a first rate sleeper.
Nian cracked a tiny smile and laughed to herself.
Prince Li was really something!
Surely if he had refused to come before, the only way Che could have gotten him to come was if he agreed to be carried out of his residence.
What a brave but shameless man!
The Emperor shot up from his seat, the eunuch and palace attendant at his side cowered in fear and almost dropped their knees. In a rage, The Emperor stomped loudly towards the person on the bed.
"Liuyun get up right this instant you brazen little brat!"
The person inside didn't move a single muscle and the Emperor's anger boiled even more. In a fit, he grabbed a hold of the drapes and tore them down wildly, like a crazy man who was blindly lashing out at an illusion before him. With the drapes gone, the person on the bed was in full view, not a single detail omitted.
What in the seventh hell...
Time seemed to have slowed for Nian as her eyes landed on the figure peacefully lying on the bed without a care in the world for the first time. He was dressed in a gorgeous white robe which was loosely tied at the waist with a jade emblem. Even with this eyes closed it was clear that his beauty was definitely unrivaled.
The man was truly a sight to behold!
His eyebrows were thick and as sharp as a sword, his nose straight, his eyelashes thick and long like a fan and his lips a mixed color of blood red and cherry blossom pink.
His long black hair was splayed out across the pillows and his skin was lightly kissed by the sun and his figure was tall and lean. It was as if he was an Ashura from hell; allowed to be looked at but not to be touched neither trifled with.
Nian didn't outwardly show it but on the inside she was amazed.
So this was Prince Li.
A sudden urge to see what his eyes looked like welled up in her. Surely a face as handsome as his would need eyes to match. As if reading her thoughts, just as then, a pair of closed eyes slowly opened and Nian felt her breath hitch.
Did the gates of hell suddenly open?
A pair of outrageously gorgeous eyes had her heart beating harshly in her chest. His eyes were as grey as the clouds when rain was going to fall. They were mysterious, captivating and intimidating but they were demonic and devilish like the gates of hell. There was a demonic and sinful look in them, unrestrained wickedness and a darkness which threatened to consume and destroy anyone who stepped into his path.
Instinctively, a few of the court officials took a step back when the evil looking pair of eyes swept over them.
Paired with such beauty that was almost unnatural, Prince Li had sultry appearance that even the immortals of Purgatory would commit the unforgivable act of destroying their cultivation, just to become mortal again and have a chance with this man.
Leisurely, Prince Li sat up, one hand supporting himself and the other carelessly hanging on the kneecap of his now bent leg. The pose was lazy but he made it look elegant and noble. He seemed indifferent and unfazed as he swept a glance across the court.
It then settled on the girl in the white dress and he tilted his head upwards to get a better look at her.
The girl looked like a year or two younger than him. She had bright green eyes and long black hair which reached her waist. She was a bit too skinny for her age but she was actually quite pleasing to the eyes. While the girls standing beside her covered in makeup and jewelry, Liuyun felt like her beauty was refreshing.
He sized her up, staring directly into her eyes, with the expectation that she would cower away or lower her gaze.
Instead, she didn't cower or back down from him and her emerald orbs stared right back. She held his gaze with confidence and coldness and she remained calm like the tide without the slightest ripple or wave.
She wasn't scared of him.
The very thought of that intrigued him and all of a sudden, he discovered that the frequency of the pulsing heartbeat within his chest became a bit faster than its former speed.
The girl interested him and a wicked smile appeared across his blood red lips.
Was she really the good for nothing that was to marry the Crown Prince?
From what he knew, the girl in the rumor was described to be a submissive woman who'd lower her head when spoken to and would cower away in fright.
Yet, before him stood a woman who could match his gaze without a single tremble or ounce of fear.
He could sense that she didn't have an ounce of spiritual talent in her. She really was useless, but something about her turned him into a moth for a flame.
Turning his attention from her, he turned to his father with a cold look and spoke in a calm voice which was laced with devilish charm. "What was so important that it demanded this king's urgent attention? Is it a matter of state or personal interests?"
"You –" The Emperor started to shout.
Prince Li casually ignored him and continued on calmly. "Furthermore, since when do the Crown Prince's affairs concern this king? Is the Crown Prince a brother of mine?"
-------------
AN: 'This king' or 'this prince' is an arrogant way of referring to one's self and is used my high ranking members of nobility.
Also the use of the word 'demonically' is an adjective and is not literal. As he story goes on you'll see that Liuyun is sometimes considered to be a Japanese Ashura (a demigod of war) or even the devil himself.
-------------
Che = chay
Liuyun = Lu-yun
