CHAPTER XI: She Should Be Compensated

One of the officials bravely stepped out from his place in the line and raised his jade slab, bowing his head slightly before speaking to the Emperor. "You Grace, I'm in agreement with Prince Li. If both parties do not wish to marry and His Highness the Crown Prince, wishes to be married to Miss Huang, then I humbly advise Your Grace to consider it. Miss Huang is outstanding in martial arts and had a very respectable character. This official believes she is fit to stand beside the Crown Prince."

"I agree also Your Grace."

"Please consider it, Your Grace."

"Your Grace..."

Hearing the words of the officials pleading on her daughter's behalf, Madam Shanghai couldn't help the large smile on her face. Before, she felt angry and embarrassed at Nian's exchange with the Crown Prince.

She felt like the girl was purposefully making a scene to get pity from the Emperor and the court officials but it seems like Prince Li had worked in her favor and had suggested a marriage between Huang and the Crown Prince.

She was aware of Hunag's feeling for the Crown Prince and couldn't be prouder that the Crown Prince reciprocated her affections and was willing to marry her. The Great Merchant was also going through the same emotions as Madam Shanghai.

Even though Nian's engagement to the Crown Prince was going to be cancelled, he was still benefitting since another daughter, one more talented and suited for the role, was going to be married to the future Emperor instead.

Once word of this got out, his status would surely be boosted and he would be the talk of the town. For years, Nian had disgraced him but now he had a chance of redemption.

Huang was also silently rejoicing. She secretly glanced at the Crown Prince. Finally, her dreams came through. Today had really been filled with fortune that was just for her.

While the officials were creating a ruckus by pleading with the Emperor on behalf of Huang for an engagement to be formed with the Crown Prince, Liuyun's attention was entirely on the girl before him.

His eyes were dark and mysterious and his face was blank. It was hard for anyone to know what he was thinking.

Nian could feel him staring at her but she ignored it. Why was he looking at her so intensely, was something wrong?

To Nian, it felt like he was trying to get her attention but in actuality, Liuyun was secretly using his Sky Eye to observe her body with spiritual power.

The Sky Eye was a special attribute that persons at level six could acquire. It required several important meridians in the eye to be unlocked beforehand and not everyone could unlock all the meridians before they got to the sixth level.

With the Sky Eye, a warrior could see several thousand li ahead in any direction. They could even see into the earth and sky. Such a feature would require an enormous amount of spiritual power to be used at one time and for this reason, most warriors didn't bother unlocking it at the sixth level.

However, Liuyun was just anybody. He had unlocked his Sky Eye at the Fifth Level and unlike other warriors who had to use a large amount of energy to power their Sky Eye, Liuyun barely used any and he was able to use the Sky Eyes several times.

Currently, he was using it to probe a spot on Nian's lower back, to be exact, the last four bones of her vertebrae. While the court was in uproar, he made a shocking discovery which almost made his jaw drop in shock.

He shut off his Sky Eye and his eyes vessels returned to normal sized. Curiously he gazed up at Nian. How could not realize she possessed such a powerful feature?

His brows scrunch up in confusion and looked down at the sheets while tapping a finger slowly. Nian felt his intense gaze lessen and she took the chance to look at him. He was still sitting lazily on the bed but there a look of seriousness and concentration on his facial features, even his eyes had darkened with mystery.

He must have felt her staring so he looked up again and their gazes locked. At first they simply stared at each other but Nian frowned when she noticed a devilish glint light up in his grey orbs and his blood red lips curled up into a demonically enchanting smile.

Nian felt her heart pound harder in her chest. Prince Li was up to something. What was he planning?

Nian racked her brain but couldn't find anything. The only thing she knew was that whatever scheme he had just conjured, she was going to be a part of it, and she didn't want to be.

"Alright, enough! Silence." The Emperor's voice broke their gaze, his deep voice booming through the hall and silencing the talkative officials. The Emperor turned around to face the Crown Prince. "Would you agree to a marriage with the Sixth Miss of Shanghai Caravan?"

With a broad smile, Qinsheng glanced at Huang who smiled back brightly. "Yes father. I would agree to marry Huang if I have your approval."

The Emperor then turned to the Great Merchant and Madam Shanghai. "Can the both of you agree to this new arrangement?"

Madam Shanghai and the Merchant were both delighted. The eagerly gave their consent before the Emperor announced that a new engagement had been formed and instructed the scribe to quickly write down his words so that an imperial edict could be made.

Liuyun watched everything with amusement in his eyes. He waited until the hall was in a joyous mood before speaking in a malicious voice and a nefarious smile on his face. "Since we're in a happy mood, this king takes it that the Emperor is pleased with his work."

The Emperor frowned. He thought the matter had been resolved. How dare this unfilial son cause more trouble!

"Liuyun, stop sprouting nonsense. Just because I dote on you it doesn't give you the right to say whatever you want. Guards? Come quickly and removed Prince Li from the bed! Send him to the Lateral Palace and cane him twelve times!"

Seeing the guards that were walking towards him, Liuyun gave a cold smile that caused the Emperor's heart to twist in unescapable fear.

BAM!

Liuyun slammed his hand down on the wooden platform beneath his mattress and a gush of wind filled the room. The guards who were quickly approaching to carry out the Emperor's orders were immediately propelled back.

CRASH!

They slammed into the wall outside of the hall. Although the wind was like a gentle breeze, it carried force. The court officials who had been joyous a while ago were now trembling and cowering as far away as possible.

Seemingly satisfied with the fear he struck into the onlookers, Liuyun leisurely continued. "If this king remembers correctly, an engagement is made between two and when cancelled, both parties are to be in agreement. Furthermore, it is unfair that the Crown Prince benefits from the annulment, and is given another engagement, while Miss Nian is left with nothing."

A wary look appeared on Nian's face. Where was Prince Li going with this?

"This king thinks she should be compensated."
