CHAPTER XXIV: Journey to Kulun Ridge (3)
Liuyun glared at her, his expression resembling a hurt child who had his candy taken away. Nian covered her red lips, wanting to laugh but afraid to laugh. How could this arrogant, overbearing prince look like he had been wronged greatly?
"Uhmm....Are you okay?"
Nian was sure what she was to say after what had happened. Her cheeks were flaming red and her heart felt like it wanted to break through her chest. Liuyun didn't answer her, silently staring at her while knocking a chess piece lightly on the table. It seemed like he was deep in thought.
What about? She couldn't really tell.
Nian moved closer to him, a little awkwardly.
Liuyun's deep dark eyes were cold and moody, when he replied. "Why do you always push me away? Do I scare you?"
"No." Nian noticed that his eyes held a trace of hurt. As fast as it appeared thought, it was gone the next second and Liuyun gave a sigh.
"Come here." He held open his arms to her again. Nian shook her head, she was not going to fall for his trickery a second time.
With a wicked gleam in his eyes, Liuyun's beautiful pink lips curled up into a sile before he let out a crisp whistle. Nian was confused by his actions and opened her mouth to question him, however, she was cut off when the Saber-Tooth Phoenix Tiger started to run off at lightning speed.
She was unprepared for the abrupt movement and Nian felt herself fall forward. Before she could catch herself, she was back in Liuyun's arms. His arms clamped around her like steel.
His chest vibrated with the sound of a wicked laugh. Nian huffed out a breath of annoyance at his arrogance.
Stupid prince!
"Can't you behave?" She glared at him.
"You told this king you wouldn't come. Yet, you delivered yourself right into my arms like a lamb for the slaughter." He spoke in a tsk-tsk tone as though she really was the one to jump into his arms.
"You cheated!" She wanted to raise her hand to smack him.
"So what?" Liuyun teased her carelessly. "Who said cheating wasn't allowed?"
"Hmph!"
Nian turned away from him and focused on the road they were traveling on. The scenery around them was almost a blur with how fast they were going and Nian could hear the wind howling alongside her.
On the back of the Saber-Tooth Phoenix Tiger however, she couldn't feel the whipping of the wind on her cheeks. Due to the tiger's high spiritual talent, it was able to shield its riders so that all they felt was a cool, mild peaceful gush of wind as they moved on.
"Ah, speaking of which," Nian found herself being turned in Liuyun's arms so that she was sitting sideways on his lap. "How do you plan to compensate this king for his devious plans to sneak you out?"
"What do you want?" Nian was growing annoyed at his unwanted favors and demands of thanks.
Liuyun tapped a chess piece on the table with a light frown on his face, his long black hair swaying in the breeze and giving him the look of a prestigious Young Master. He really did carry a devilish charm, that despite acting wild and unreasonable, it made him out to be the ultimate lure.
His voice was unhurried when he spoke. "This king will think about it."
Nian didn't know whether to cry or to laugh. To owe Prince Li something was equivalent to holding out a piece of meat for a starved lion. You never knew when it would pounce and what it would do.
