CHAPTER XXVII: Journey to Kulun Ridge (1)
Before the sun could wake up properly and replace the hues of orange, yellow and pink in the sky with a brilliant shade of blue, word of thieves breaking into the manor had spread like wildfire.
Chengfeng was furious when he discovered that there was more than one accomplice and they were not mediocre thieves. They had used the stratagem of luring the tiger away from the mountain. And it worked!
This was no simple robbery. No, the persons who broke in were experts of martial arts; one of them was able to keep up a fight with a level nine expert while the other was at least a level six expert who was able to break the mysterious lock without much effort.
The very thought that his Treasure Pavilion had turned into a place that experts could leisurely stroll into and take what they wanted made him furious.
Who gave them such authority?
Boiling red with fury, Chengfeng ordered that the manor be shut down. No one was allowed to leave until they knew what was stolen and who the brazen arrogant thieves were.
Nian had also heard the news and after reading the slip of paper left on her pillow, she knew exactly who broke into the manor and caused such a disturbance.
Qing's face was full of happiness that morning. The manor being locked down meant that her mistress would have a few more peaceful days since everyone would be focused on finding out what was stolen.
The Merchant's wives would make a fuss about their dowry which was stored in the treasure pavilion and they'd demand that all of it be taken out and every item checked and accounted for on their lists which were a quite lengthy.
If that the thought of thieves weren't enough to give the Merchant a headache then the complaining of wives and daughters about which jewelry was and wasn't accounted for was surely going to drive him mad.
Gathering the empty breakfast dishes, Qing smiled at Nian. "Miss, these next few days we need to properly stay in the courtyard, so do not stir up trouble, okay?"
Nian chuckled to herself and tossed the book she was reading onto the bed. She picked up the slip of paper under her bed and with a smile, she gave Qing some instructions. "Do you really think this Miss will stay locked up in here? Dear Qing, you will take my place for a few weeks while I go out. When I come back, I will definitely bring you something good."
"Miss—" Qing's face was full of shock. How could her Miss think about sneaking out again? And at such a time too!
Not waiting on Qing's protest, Nian shoved a slip of paper into her hand in which a spell for a paper crane was written, and with a wave of her hand, she dismissed her.
Later that evening, Nian managed to sneak out of the manor and arrived at the meeting place Liuyun had stated in the letter. She obediently waited in the shade of a big tree on the outskirts of town, dressed like a handsome gongzi.
Qing had snuck her some clothes from the servant's quarters and with a touch of makeup she really did look like a young man.
Not long after she arrived under the tree, a cloud of dust rose in the distance and the sound of a beast's roar rumbled across the sky. Nian turned in the direction of the sound and saw a large beast running in her direction.
Nian's eyes widened in awe. The beast coming in her direction was not an ordinary Savage Beast. It was a large tiger the size of a house and if one looked closely, one could see that the white, grey and black fur was glowing even in the brilliant sunlight.
In its mouth, a sharp tooth hung down from either side of its mouth like a saber. Its eyes were a scorching and flaming orange color. It looked like an unusual divine spirit tiger. Furthermore, its running speed was faster than a thousand wild tigers by several folds.
In the blink of an eye, it stood came to a smooth stop in front of Nian.
The soft fur of the tiger gleamed brightly in the sunlight and its majestic body stood silently in front of Nian. After coming to a stop it gave off a small growl while vibrated the ground under Nian's feet, but Nian remained unfazed as she continued to stare at the majestic being.
"Could this be the legendary Saber-Tooth Phoenix Tiger?" Surprise was written all over her delicate face.
Recently, she'd spent time reading and at some point she came across a book of legendary beasts. It was how she knew of Lei's Blue-Eyed Snow Owl.
She'd also read about a fierce tiger which was known to burst into flames like a phoenix and had the spiritual talent of a level six with the potential to grow and become stronger.
Such a beast could be compared to a general of the imperial army. These beasts were powerful and of among all the powerful people, only Liuyun had this tiger.
Not only that, the Saber-Tooth Phoenix Tiger was a beast of war, yet Liuyun raised it not as a battle companion but as a mount he used to travel.
Such elegance and prestige, Liuyun was indeed deserving of being called His Legendary highness, Prince Li.
Since Liuyun possessed such a rare beast, Nian wondered just how strong it actually was. Was it still a level six beast or did Liuyun train it to be stronger?
"How could it not be?" Liuyun's devilish voice spoke up with a hint of laughter.
Nian looked up. Liuyun was sitting on the back of the tiger with a stone table floating in mid air before him while his slender fingers were curled around a chess piece. Although he had spoken to Nian, his alluring grey eyes were slightly lowered towards the chessboard on the stone table.
