"You really don't have to," I told him. But he'd already beaten me to the check by the time I started to reach for it.

"I insist," he began, "especially 'cause you're new around here apparently."

I let out a breath of a laugh.

"Would you, eh, want to go out again sometime? I'm in the UK for a little while longer," he asked as we walked out the door.

"Was this.." I didn't know how to finish that sentence. Or was it meant to be a question?

His eyes grew wider. "I mean, I just had a really nice time talking with you, that's all." He sighed. "Look," he started again, "I really like you, but I get that this is all really-"

"Fast." I finished his sentence.

"Yeah," he looked into my eyes, "fast."

"You know.."

We ran down the street as fast as we could, smiling and laughing like idiots. I don't know what came over me, but I didn't want it to end. I held his hand tightly as I led him down the pavement and around the corner.

"It's a long walk," I told him, barely able to contain my excitement. "And I don't have a car."

"Mine's parked near the Gucci building," he said, clearly out of breath. He held out his hand and without hesitation I took it. "There's no need for someone like Nancy Townes to walk all that way." He smiled and laughed.

The car ride felt like forever and I couldn't hide my smile.

What am I doing?  This is so unlike me.. And I love it.
