As the weekend came along, Abby began becoming comfortable with her new surroundings. She knew the school a little bit better and understood where her classes were at and what times they started at on different days. She had also slowly became accustomed to Nick. They began to talk any time they saw each other in Trig class. More or less, it was Nick to usually start the conversation while Abby quietly awaited him to start it like most girls usually do. For Abby, she was able to finally start calling someone other than Sarah her friend. Though her mother's feelings were very unsure about her new found friendship with him and her being in contact with just a boy in general, friend or not. But Abby was not concerned about how her mother felt. She knew her mother was over protective after homecoming last year but it can only be taken so far before it's overwhelming.
As noon rolled around that Saturday, Abby was meeting up with her best friend Sarah, who attended Barbara High. Their plans were to meet up at Sarah's house after Sarah's cheerleading practice. She was a cheerleader for a team outside of the school. The school was not as gifted in the sport of cheer as most schools were and that immediately bothered Sarah. She always wanted to be the best at what she did, regardless of the situation. It would measure from being the prettiest, strongest, fastest, smartest, or even simply the best at a video game. It was a type of attitude she grew up with when she was younger.
Abby knocked on the door and it flung open in seconds.
"Hey love!" Sarah yelled. She hugged Abby as she screamed and squealed out of excitement. "C'mon in!" They went directly into Sarah's room where music was blasting. It was a song with a catchy yet heavy beat to it. Something that you could feel inside your chest from approaching the stereo. They sat down on Sarah's bed and got comfortable as Sarah turned down the music so they could hear each other. Sarah's room consisted of shelves of cheerleading trophies and old softball trophies from when she played. Her walls were painted a dark shade of blue almost like a dark violet, with her bed sheets being nearly the same color.
"Where have you been, Abby? I haven't seen you since you changed schools." Sarah began.
"I've just been trying to keep a low profile," Abby shrugged.
"Doing a great job it seems," Sarah nudged. Abby sighed,
"Not exactly."
Sarah looked at her and examined her. She began to question her about the meaning of the statement as Abby let out another sigh.
"Well, Derek showed up at school yesterday."
Sarah instantly sat up in attention and listened carefully as Abby told her what had happened. Abby explained how Robert followed her and how Derek showed up and cornered her and how Nick and Lem showed up at what seemed like the last second to Abby. Of course, there had to be some exaggeration to it or it wouldn't have been as interesting as it was.
"Two guys saved you? Geez, I can barely get one that will save me," Sarah joked. Abby nodded with a small smile out of embarrassment and a little of nervousness, knowing that Sarah was going to escalade this into a full blow 'He likes you' story.
"Well, are they cute? Spit it out," Sarah demanded. Abby laughed and shrugged.
"I don't know. I haven't been looking."
Sarah slapped her bed, "Oh c'mon! You either do or you don't," Sarah said as she was laughing.
"Well, they are both cute. It's just I don't know them. I know Nick a little more than Lem. Nick seems nice but..." Abby paused.
"But what?"
"So did Derek."
Sarah sat next to Abby and hugged her. "You don't have to worry about it anymore. How about we have a Glee marathon?" Sarah suggested. Abby smiled.
