"Oh my god." I muttered and turned my back on the team. I can't believe this is happening. We're falling apart. We're performing in two hours! We can't afford this! "Ladies, what, the FUCK is going on with you right now."
I had turned back around to face the girls and they all had a scared look on their faces. "We have nationals in TWO hours and this is how you're performing?" I started to pace around the room, "Britney, I put you on reserve team and then bumped you up because your stunts are killer, and this is what you give me? Lindsey, all your face says is please kill me. If you don't want to be here, then leave!"
No one moved. "On your feet, we're running this until we get it right. No water, no breaks." I turned back around towards the boombox, but paused. "Actually, no. We're running tumbling drills until I'm satisfied."
Everyone groaned and lined up on the far side of the mat. "Oh you don't want to work on tumbling? We can do ab workouts for two hours instead." Quickly everyone shut up.
Bethany walked over to me. "What's going on with you today Zoey? You've been off since this morning."
I shrugged my shoulders, "Nothing. I'm just pissed that our title is going to be thrown away on stupid little freshmen."
"You're taking this to the extreme. When you're happy with how someone's stunts are let them take a break, but make the others keep going. Okay?"
"Okay." I turned on the music and joined my team on the mats. I started the drills. As each girl did what I wanted them to do I let them sit down, until it was just me and Ria.
I pulled her aside, "Ria, what's with you today? You're never the first out, but you're never the last one standing."
"My...my leg." She whispered.
"Your leg? What's wrong with your leg?"
"I don't know. I woke up and it felt fine, but when we started practice it was twinging."
"Sit out Ria, I don't want you hurting yourself."
"I'll be fine."
“Seriously Ria, Sit out. I don’t want you to get injured.”
“It’s nationals, you think I’m going to sit out?”
“If I have anything to say about it, yes.” I snapped. Ria rolled her eyes and walked to the edge of the mat.
“What do you want to see next, captain?” Ria spat at me.
“Nothing, I’m happy with you now, let’s just run routine,” I turned my back to her and towards the other girls.
“Well I know you aren’t happy, so neither am I.” Ria whispered under her breath. I turned around just after she said that in time to see Ria start a combination across the floor. One that Bethany and I got over the summer, and Ria hasn’t even attempted yet.
