Two months had past and after our encounter in September, Roger hadn’t been in school much. Not that I’m complaining. Just being around him made my head spin, not in a good way.

Roger had made varsity football; quarterback of course. He’s starter, even due to his absences at school. But he is so good, we’re undefeated.

Our cheerleading squad is just as good. This year we’re the squad to watch at the competitions. We have all the first place trophies except for one… but it’s not Bethany’s fault that Josh didn’t catch her in time.

Anyway, next weekend the football team is off to compete in Nationals; in North Carolina. The game is on Saturday and the team is going down Friday morning. The cheer ream is going down Wednesday morning for the National Cheer Competition, also in North Carolina. We’re competing Thursday and Friday. This is so exciting!

Last night we had won the State Championships in double over-time. Due to how late the game went (and how drunk we got) the football team and cheerleaders got exempt from the first two classes of the day.

As we walked into school 3 hours late, Bethany, Ria and I went into the cafeteria for the information meeting about North Carolina.

Everyone was walking out and Dawn came up to us. “Ladies, period 3 meeting, not lunch.”

Whoops. “Sorry Dawn. We had study hall period 3. But we got you a coffee!” Bethany smiled sweetly and gave Dawn her iced coffee.

Dawn gave us a look then said, “You girls know the deal from freshmen year. If you have any questions let me know. Here are the lists and permission slips.” She handed each of us a packet. “It’s all due by Friday.”

“Hold on.” I said. I pulled out a pen and filled out the form for Ria; signature, check and all. Ria did for Bethany and Bethany for me. Dawn smiled as she collected the checks and ‘signed’ permission slips.

“You girls never cease to amaze me. How long have you been doing that for each other?” She asked.

“Longer than we care to admit.” The three of us laughed. By the time 6th grade had rolled around we mastered each others’ parent’s signatures. Number 1 rule of faking signatures: Don’t do it with your own hand.

Dawn chuckled, sighed and said, “No practice today. You ladies deserve a break. I’ll see you all tomorrow.” She turned and walked towards her classroom.

“Glad we got that out of the way. So sleepover at my house next Tuesday?” I asked while walking outside to our usual lunch spot. As soon as we made it outside I froze. It took Bethany and Ria a minutes but they eventually noticed too.

“What the hell is he doing here?”

“Of all days, today? Zoey?” Bethany asked cautiously and turned to me. A thousand thoughts ran through my head. He hasn’t been in school in forever, and when he has he hasn’t been with our group. I’m just fine with that, but of course, of all days, today he decides to show up and sit at our table. Regaining my composure, I strutted over saw Tucker and gave him a nice, long lingering kiss. I didn’t break away until I heard Brent clear his throat behind me.

"Sorry." I muttered staring at Tucker trying so damn hard not to look at Roger. Curiostiy got the best of me and I peeked over Tucker's shoulder towards Roger. I saw him raise his eyebrows and smirk. Not the reaction I was going for.

"So when does the cheer team leave for North Carolina?" Tucker asked snaking an arm around my waist.

"We leave Wednesday morning. You guys leave Thursday right?"

"No, we leave Friday morning.I wish we could come down and watch you guys." Tucker tightened his arm around me and leaned into my ear, "Spending a few more nights with you wouldn't suck either."
