I walked through the double doors of the gym and took a deep breath. This is my kingdom, I rule this gym.

In less than an hour 35 girls and 10 boys who survived cheer camp will stand in front of me, waiting for my final decision. To be honest I basically already have my team in mind, I just need to consult with Ria and Bethany.

The double doors banged open and Ria and Bethany rushed in. “Bitch you better be ready to spill about everything that happened last night.” Ria yelled across the gym.

I laughed, “It was amazing. Except for Roger being there.” I fake gagged and put my cheer bag on the table on the sidelines. “But even that wasn’t too bad.”

I dug through my bag and pulled out a key ring filled with keys. “How on earth did you get Dawn’s key ring?” Ria asked in awe.

“She stopped by my house this morning and gave it to me. I’m giving it back on Monday, she just won’t be here for tryouts, we have full control.” I smiled.

Dawn is our coach and she’s the best. She’s this petite little blonde who can’t be taller than 4’ 8’’. She was a cheerleader in high school and college but now she teaches. She’s about 25 and she teaches English here at FRHS. Dawn basically gives me full control of everything that happens. She’s just the name that signs off our gym exemptions and acts as the adult chaperone on our competitions and field trips. She’s far from a chaperone.

The three of us walked over to the cheer closet and began pulling out mats. “She’s the best coach ever.” Bethany said.

“I think the best thing she’s ever done is D.D. for us whenever we party with the football players.” I replied laughing, Dawn really is as cool as it gets.

“Stop avoiding the question Zoey! What happened last night?” Ria asked.

I laughed again and shrugged my shoulders. “We left the party around 11, it wasn’t really fun. We took his car over to the lookout and just talked. Then we went back to my place and watched a movie in the loft. It was fun.”

Suddenly music blared through the speakers. As soon as it started it shut off. I spun around to find Bethany kneeling by the table with my iPod in her hand hooked up to the stereo system. “Sorry.” She said, “Just making sure it works. Continue your story, you know we want details.” Bethany winked.

“And don’t say you didn’t kiss, I could see that hickey from across the gym.” Ria said absentmindedly while organizing papers and clipboards on the table.

A pit formed in my stomach, “You shouldn’t be able too. My shirt completely covers it.”

Ria smiled to herself, “Your sports bra moved a little, I saw the discoloration of the cover up. You covered it, but I was looking for it. No one else will be able to tell, I promise.” I breathed a sigh of relief. Ria can always see hickeys, even when they are covered. Last year Bethany got a hickey and I covered it for her, with cover-up, a scarf and everything else you could ever think of. Ria took one look and said “Nice hickey.” She’s good.

“But that’s besides the point, how far did you go?” Bethany asked.

“Not too far, you know I like to keep it classy.” I smiled.

“We also know that you’ve been ‘chasing’ Tucker for about four years.” Bethany said as she started to stretch.

“Thanks for reminding me! Ria you lead warm-up today?” I turned and asked.

“Yeah, of course. I kinda already assumed. But Zoey, if you can’t stop avoiding this and tell us, we’ll assume you’re pregnant with his kid.” Ria said.
