If someone had told Jade Thirlwall three years ago that one day she would want to take her own life, she would have rolled her eyes and laughed. As far as she was concerned, her life was great. She had the perfect boyfriend, who treated her like a princess. While Jade was aware that her parents didn't see eye to eye, she was grateful that they lived under the same roof. Even with their busy schedules, they always made time for her. Being the only daughter of a successful businessman, she never had any difficulty in getting what she wanted. So why on Earth would she have the desire to shorten her life span? That would be absurd. However, no matter how good or bad a situation is, things change. Unfortunately for Jade, her life had changed for the worst.
It was not as though this was Jade's first experience with heartbreak. There was Danielle who had been cheating on her for the last two months of their relationship. She had stayed in bed for a week, bawling her eyes out. Crying, until there were no tears left to cry. Then there was Sam, her senior. He had graduated high school a year before her. After he left for University, they had naturally drifted apart. Jade had accepted that it simply was not meant to be. After four months of dating Jed, she believed he was the one for her. She was head over heels in love. She had failed to find any signs of things going wrong. Therefore when Jed had slipped the words, "We should break up", Jade was left stunned. Too stunned to feel hurt. However, at present, all she felt was wounded. The worst part of it all was his dishonesty, claiming he had fallen out of love. He had failed to mention that he had fallen in love with someone else. They had dated for five years but he had chosen to marry Ginny, after eighteen months. He left you. He left you. He loves her. He loves her. Jade continues to repeat these words in her head, unable to prevent the tears from falling.
That combined with losing the only other man she had ever truly loved, her father. It was all too much. James Thirlwall had been undergoing cancer treatment for many years and things were starting to look better. That was until last year when the tests had come back positive. Jade would have liked to say that they made the most out of their last year together. However, that would be a lie. Being the only child, it was her duty to take over the company her grandparents started. So last year had involved Mr Thirlwall teaching her what it takes to be an amazing CEO. Thankfully that was easy for her, business and leadership came naturally to Jade. What was hard was accepting that instead of spending quality time together at home, like a normal family, she had to work. Jade had to endure meetings after meetings. Give presentations while trying to remain emotionally stable. To make matters worse, her mother had chosen that very year to marry her new husband, Harrison. Unfortunately being the CEO of a well known firm involves maintaining an image. She had no choice but to attend the wedding. For similar reasons, she had to attend Jed's. Going to the wedding would have been too much, so she had opted for the reception. Jed. Even his name made Jade feel uneasy.
Now it will be all for nothing, Jade thinks to herself. "I am sorry dad", she whispers, looking out the window. The train vibrates, creating a chugging sound, followed by a whistle. Not long to go, Jade thinks to herself.
