13: Everest

I was on the floor. I'm not sure what happened. I was explaining to Professor Wildcat about what happened to me and of the weird smell. However, all he did was send me to the lab to get tested. 

Everyone in school hated the lab. There were rumours that the students who went in changed when they came out, almost like they had been hypnotised or were too traumatised. As I walked in, I was greeted by a bunch of jars containing brains and hearts, all drowned in a liquid to preserve it. There were fake skeletons all over the lab and test tubes running all across the lab.

"Everest? Why are you here?"

"Dr Ivy, I was sent here as there was some smell earlier in the gym and I think it made me kill someone in the school. Can you help me identify what the substance was and who released it?"

"Okay. I'll update you tomorrow. I just need a small sample from your blood."

When I opened the door to dad's house, I could hear dad praising Nate.

"I'm back."

"Everest! Why did you kill someone in school! Are you trying to bring a bad image to our family? You are such a useless child!"

"I know dad. No matter how I try to talk you into believing me you won't so I'm giving up. I'll be in my room."

"Wait a second you brat. You haven't apologized for not celebrating my birthday!"

"I didn't come because all I would be was a nuisance to you! Ever since Nate came home all you do is scold me and hate me. Do you think that's fair? I know what you are going to say. 'Oh, he is more well behaved. Oh, he was more well behaved.' Just stop okay? It's not fair or funny anymore. I'm leaving."

I locked myself in the room, crying my heart out. Why was my family so broken after someone came back? I wanted to beg, get down on my knees and ask them why. Dad was never like this. I was almost willing to leave the house forever. However, I felt reluctant to leave the only family I had.

After much consideration, I came up with a plan. I would wait for dad and Nate to go out for dinner. Then I would 'kashoot' myself off the second story window of my bedroom and run. I was not fully sure of where to go but I knew that I had to leave or life would get worse.

"Everest, we are going out for dinner. You coming?" It was Nate. I stayed quiet, waiting for his footsteps to go down the stairs. I had already packed all my clothing and weapons. I took all my possessions and looked at the room one last time. "Goodbye."

After hearing the car engine sound become distant, I jumped out the window and ran as quickly as my legs took me. Without knowing, I reached Lyta's place. Her room light was turned on. However, it didn't feel safe as her house was too close to my dad's house.

After searching a while more, I found the place. The perfect place.
