21: Everest

I woke up but did not open my eyes. The smell was that of a hospital. This time I had really pushed myself.

"Everest! You passed out suddenly.Please be okay!"

"Don't talk! She needs rest! You may be her mate but I'm her friend. Shut up okay?"

Daniel and Hellion suddenly appeared in my vision. Both boys were fighting until they saw me open my eyes.

Daniel smiled and ran to get the rogues while Hellion stayed at the side of my bed. "How are you feeling? You okay?" He placed my hand against his cheek. Oddly enough, it didn't feel the same. He felt distant. I shook my hand out of his grasp and just stared at the bed, wanting to hide under the covers and disappear from the world.

Hellion knew something was up but didn't pry for any more information. He walked out and eyed me, as if he were trying to hide something. Though I wanted to tell him the truth about me, I couldn't because it may change everything. It seemed weird how I had shared the information with my friends and not my mate. After all the reading, I guess i just did not feel the connection we had before.

"Hurry!" The door slammed open and everyone except Emma and the new members showed up at the side of the bed in less than a second. I was spammed with questions. Fortunately, they decided to shut up and give me some time to talk.

"Okay. Guys, I'm sorry I passed out. But I want to tell you guys something. You can't tell anyone though. No questions until I'm done."

I began telling them the things I had found out and what I thought would happen to me. I even talked about what happened earlier and about the nightmares I had. Somehow, they always seemed to understand me and never judged.

After the long storytelling session, some of the boys had their mouths hanging open while Wendy and Daniel began to pat my shoulder.

Suddenly, I remembered something important.

"Guys, on your way in, did you guys see Hellion?"

"Umm. We didn't see anyone. Why? Did he tell you where he was going?"

I leaped from the bed and ran out the door. I had a bad feeling about this.

I should have known this was coming. He acted really suspicious when he was leaving. Maybe it was my imagination but I felt that he was cheating on me. I ran to his apartment, and saw that no one was home just yet. I decided to hide out behind the big trees and hid my scent with the perfume I had picked up at the convenience store a few days ago and stuffed into my pocket.

I waited for about twenty minutes. At the twenty minute mark, I saw a car coming and my ears pricked up two voices, one Hellion's and the other a female.

"Babe, when are you free? You never talk to me in school. It isn't fair!"

"I'm sorry. I had to make sure my mate did not suspect anything."

"Sigh. When are you ever gonna tell her! It's been almost three weeks now and you still need to fake your feelings for her."

At this point, the girl was getting too courageous. Half of me told me to stay here and not find out who she was to prevent myself from getting found out. However, curiosity got the better of me. I sneaked up to the wall and turned my head around the corner. I could not believe who I saw.

The next day at school, I felt the day pass by rather quickly. Soon, I was walking towards the rogues base. My eyes still had dark circles around them as I could not sleep a wink the previous night. Every time I closed my eyes, I kept picturing the scene I had seen yesterday at Hellion's house.

This meeting was a rather weird one. Marco was staring daggers at Emma, while Samuel was flexing his new girlfriend, Grace Miller, whom he claimed was the smartest person in the school. She was also the biggest goody-two-shoes ever known to the level. How they got together is beyond me. Luckily, Daniel pulled me aside to talk.

"Everest. Not trying to be creepy but I followed you yesterday after you left. Are you okay? I can't believe he cheated on you."

"Thanks. I'm..." I choked on my tears as they ran like a river down my face. Daniel pat my back before leaving to call Wendy in. Wendy gave me a tight hug and let me cry. After a good ten minutes of sobbing, I managed to speak properly.

"Hellion. Is. A. Cheater!" Wendy shouted.

"I can't believe he would cheat on you with Huntress. I thought they were just friends?" Wendy questioned.

Silence filled the room. I decided to speak up. "He... Loves her... I was nothing. Just another plaything to him."

"Hey, it's okay. Just forget about him. If you really hate him, we will be here to help you get revenge okay?" Wendy said, before giving me a hug. Daniel joined in and we stayed there for about a minute.

As we left the room, I saw the drama that had been happening while we were away. Emma and Samuel's girlfriend had gotten into a fight, Emma raising her hands, ready to send fireballs to burn off Grace's face. On the other hand, Grace's hand was also held out, as if she wanted to protect herself, as she did not have any form of attack powers. As an alpha werewolf, my dominant side wanted to step in and break up the fight. However, I knew that if Emma got angry, she was tough to stop.

In the end, I growled and the dominant side took over, turning me full werewolf and making me pace towards her. Eventually, she gave up and ran right out the door.

"Well that ended quickly." Marco said in amusement.
