ADAM BANKS SADLY walked out of Eden Hall that day as he stared down at his shoes and gripped his backpack straps. The particular day wasn't his best starting with the fact that he missed November more than ever. Just the fact that he still had two weeks until he could see her again made him nauseous. He just wanted to see her everyday. He missed hearing and seeing her laugh at the same time. He missed being able to hug her small yet perfectly huggable size. He missed joking around with her and insulting her regardless of how much he loved her. He just missed her.
Adam couldn't help but mentally groan as he heard the familiar beep of a car pull up beside him on cue. Knowingly, the boy put on the best nonchalant and calm expression he could before turning on his heels to face the one older boy who simply just wouldn't leave him alone.
"There you are Banks! I've been looking for you!" As usual, August Collins gave his sisters boyfriend a charming and friendly smile before patting the seat beside him, causing Adam to draw his eyebrows together
"Did you just pat for me to sit down?" The blond asked as he opened the passenger seat door and willingly sat in the car. With a smile, August nodded and winked.
"You know it."
As hard as Adam was trying not to laugh at the moment, he couldn't withhold the little chuckle that escaped his lips as August drove off. Truly, anyone could spot the resemblance between August and November from a mile away just starting with their names. It was obvious that as Adam began to know Auggie, he began to see where November got her charm, her sarcasm, her wit; it was all under the name of August Collins.
"So Adam-" August began, "-can I call you Adam?"
The blond boy hummed and furrowed his eyebrows with a shrug. "Yeah, it's my name, why not?"
The brunette glanced to the side before switching his eyes back onto the road. Nonchalantly, he shook his head. "I just thought that since you're my sisters boyfriend and all that maybe I should just call you 'banks' because it makes me seem more tough on you but then I realised it might be a problem when you two get married in the future" Auggie gave another side glance to him, checking to see if he got the reaction he was expecting. However, as his eyes landed to where Adam held a calm and unfazed look, he couldn't help but let a small grin fall onto his face.
There was warmth and hidden glee in Adam's voice as he softly spoke. Really, August was expecting the boy to become baffled at the mere thought of getting married to November; especially since they were talking about it when he was still so young. But right then, it was obvious that he was completely fine with getting married to the mentioned girl. In fact, it was clear as day that he was hoping for it.
"You think I'll get married to your sister?" Adam asked softly in a whipped daze as he stared out onto the road, subconsciously smiling at the conversation topic
Auggie felt his heart warm up as he looked where Adam held a content look. It just went to show how in love Adam truly was with Nova. So, with a lit up face and idea, a playful smirk fell into August's countenance. "I think you will," He began to say, "but do you?"
Adam just gave a nonchalant shrug, not ripping his eyes away from where the fixated on the road. "I don't know.." he whispered out, "I really really hope so but... we just turned fifteen and-"
"And what?" August urged on, "if you love her so much then marry her when you can- you do love her, right?"
Without hesitation, Adam nodded vigorously before looking at the driving boy. "Of course I do, you know that."
"So why don't you know if you'll marry her one day?"
Adam just shrugged. It wasn't that he didn't know, it was that he didn't want to know. He wanted to marry her, he did but every couple who loves one another wants to marry each other but sometimes they just don't work out. So simply, Adam Banks just didn't want to get his hopes up at the chance that he'd marry November one day. Though, part of him kept pushing on his tolerance. Part of him kept bringing his hope and will up; every time he thought about her, talked to her, heard her name, anything really. No matter how much he tried not to think about their future together, the little butterflies in his stomach and daydreams in his head said otherwise. "We're just so young... I don't really want to thank about it-"
Suddenly, August abruptly steered to the side and pulled over in a halt. Before Adam could react and register what had been going on, Auggie made it his duty to turn and face his undivided attention to his little sisters boyfriend.
"You're so stupid, you know that?" August laughed as Adam steadied his breathing and drew his eyebrows together
"Thanks August, I try" Adam said sarcastically, making the older boy just chuckle and shake his head
"Just- just forget that you're fifteen okay. Just pretend like your my age or something. Would you marry my sister?"
"Why are you asking me this? You know I love her, right-"
August flicked Adam's forehead and scoffed. "Of course I do, doofus," He sneered, "you never fail to remind me-"
"So then what is this about-"
"It's about the fact that I need to know you won't hurt her!" Slowly, Adam's face fell into a flustered look as he gave off offence and seriousness
"I would never intend to do that-" The blond admitted softly with a head shake, "why would you think-"
With a reassuring and understanding sigh, August caused Adam to pause his sentence. "Because not every guy in this world is like you, Adam," He confessed, "if I'll be honest, it's like your too good to be true for her. That's why I'm talking to you about this..."
Adam froze for a moment at the sudden seriousness and confession August had. Really, Adam wasn't expecting to have such a serious conversation with him as he was so loose and reckless sometimes. But right then, he was glad to finally have a heartwarming conversation with his girlfriends brother; he wanted nothing but approval from August Collins.
"Thanks man," Adam sighed as he ran a hand through his hair, "I would never want to hurt her, trust me. I'll literally write you an essay about how much I love her."
August loosened up at Adam's intended joke as he placed a brotherly hand on his shoulder. "Cool," he spoke with a soft smile, "it's due tomorrow"
because of Auggie's unchanging expression and tone, Adam was unsure if the boy was joking. To be frank, he thought that August was serious so Adam was already mentally planning out how he was going to write it. The flustered look on the boys face just made Auggie laugh. In alarm, Adam perked up an eyebrow and waited in confusion as to why the boy was laughing. Though, when Auggie finally spoke, relief fell into Adam's face.
"I'm kidding, Adam," He breathed out, "I know how you feel about her and I approve of it... now get out of my car"
Again, Adam fell into the same look of alarm and confusion as he did seconds before. "Wait what? Why? What did I do?!"
For a second, confusion flashed August's face before he rested into realisation. Playfully, he shrugged. "Nothing-"
"So why are you telling me to get out?" Adam asked with a baffled look and a voice crack. "August, I don't know where we are! I have to go home!"
With another laugh, August looked at the boy in humour. Simply, the boy perked at eyebrow at Adam before nodding his head to the view behind him. "You are home, tips." He remarked, causing Adam to suddenly look behind him to view his house out of his passenger window. The confusion of how he didn't notice was clear on his face though August knew exactly why the boy hadn't realised he was home. Nonetheless, the blond walked out of the car and began to leave, but not until he gave a small smile and wave to the older boy.
Just as Adam was to walk further towards his house, August rolled down the passenger seat window. "Hey Adam," August began in a finalisation to their small trip and conversation, "maybe next time, try not to get too occupied on thinking about my sister. I know you love her and all but you need to realise when your home, man..."
