Okay, I have to finish this by May 10th, so expect a lot of updates.  But this is also a short story, so don't expect more than 12 chapters.

Sophie POV

"It was you the whole time?" Sophie asked, blushing.

Keefe smirked, "Happy to see me, huh, Foster?"

Sophie was sure she was the color of a firetruck. "Oh um, about what I said..."

Keefe grinned. "That you can't resist me, and, my hot ice blue eyes?"

Sophie hid behind her hair.

Keefe laughed.

"Well, I guess I don't have to go find you to say hi now." Sophie mumbled. "But wait, how did you know it was me?"

"An empath just knows." Keefe said, winking.

Sophie rolled her eyes, ignoring the fluttering feeling in the pit of her stomach.

"And you look amazing, Foster. Like always."

Sophie opened her mouth to answer, when her stomach let our a loud, low rumbling sound.

"Been away from the food table too long, Foster?"

Sophie blushed (for like the billionth time that night).  "I'll be okay. "

Keefe grinned. "What if I get us some food and bring it out here?"

Sophie smiled. "That sounds good."

Keefe started back to the ballroom, but when he noticed Sophie shivering, quickly ran back. "You okay,?"

"Yeah. Just a bit cold."

Keefe quickly took his warm dress coat off and put it on her. They both blushed when Keefe's fingers brushed her shoulder. "I'll be right back." he said with a wink.

Sophie watched as he ran back to the ballroom.

For a long time, she had always had a crush on Fitz. It had always been Fitz.

So why did she feel butterflies in her stomach whenever Keefe was around? And not Fitz anymore?

When she spent time with Keefe, she felt she could be herself, without being judged. She felt free and limitless, something only Keefe had ever made her feel. Keefe was the most kind, caring, amazing person she had ever met, and she...

No. She did NOT like Keefe Sencen. No. Definitely not.

'But-' a quiet voice in Sophie's mind whispered.

'NO! ' the more realistic voice in Sophie's mind screamed back, silencing the other voice.

'but maybe-' Sophie's thought were interrupted by a shuffling noise.

Sophie's ears tingled, and she heard the noise come closer.

Sophie leapt up, Keefe's coat falling to the floor when she did so. "Who's there?"

A deep chuckle responded.

"What do you want?" Sophie asked, taking out the dagger she had secretly stored in the waistline of her dress.

"Many things Sophie, many things." The voice responded.

Sophie got into a fighting stance that Sandor had taught her and faced the voice.

"With you though..." the voice continued, before the person leapt out.

They were invisible, so they were harder to fight, but Sophie still fought with everything she had. She heard a grunt from her enemy before feeling an intense pain in her side. Sophie dropped her dagger in shock, which gave the enemy a chance.
