Sophie couldn't believe it when she heard the announcement. Foxfire was closing for the entire year. And just when things were going perfectly normal, or as normal as they could be.
She hated be the new girl at Foxfire and now she was going have to go through it all again. The stares, the whispers.
Luckily, she wouldn't be the only one with a story to her name. Biana had told her about a boy, Harry or something like that. She described him as the boy counterpart of her. Maybe it would be nice to have someone to relate to.
Sophie held that thought as she took one last glance at her room. It hadn't changed at all since she had first arrived, but it looked lived in at least. With one final sweep, Sophie closed the door and tossed her bag down the stairs. Thank goddness she didn't live in Candleshade. It must be a nightmare for Keefe to get his luggage downstairs.
"Sophie? We have something for you!" Grady picked up her bag and smiled.
Edaline stood next to him, a shiny teal box in her hands. Sophie stumbled down the stairs and gave them both a quick hug. Edaline extended her hands and Sophie took the box.
"You know you really didn't have to, I'll see you in a couple weeks"
"Don remind me" Grady groaned.
Sophie lifted the lid to reveal a small scroll and a necklace with a Moonlark charm. Tears pricked Sophie's eyes as she gave Edaline a hug.
"And look, I thought you might miss mallowmelts so I wrote down the recipe" Edaline nodded to the scroll.
"It's perfect"
A sad silence hung between them until Sophie hugged them once more and said, "I love you"
She knew they were all holding back tears so she pulled away, put the box in her trunk, and lifted it up. Her friends stood outside the door, waving for her to come.
"Bye!" Sophie gave her parents one last wave before shutting the door behind her.
"Oh my god! Sophie! I can't wait to tell you all the new details I've heard! Gossip gets around" Biana bobbed up and down with excitement.
A cough came from behind them and Sophie noticed Magnate Leo standing there.
"Do we have to go already?" Sophie asked.
He nodded and held the multicolored crystal up to the light. Sophie had never seen one with four colors before, red, yellow, green, and blue.
They all stood back as the light shimmered and formed the portal in from of them.
Fitz went first, gracefully stepping though. Then Biana and Dex. Soon there was only Keefe and Sophie.
Sophie looked up at Keefe and hooked her hand in his. "Together"
Keefe smiled and repeated, "Together"
They stepped through the portal and the elven world as Sophie knew it melted away.
