Sophie didn't remember walking to the Gryffindor table. She didn't remember Harry waving to her and dragging her to a seat next to him. She couldn't believe she was a Gryffindor. Sophie never thought of herself of brave. It felt wrong.
"Sophie? Hello?"
Harry's fingers snapped in front of her face and Sophie looked at him.
"Sophie, this is Hermione and Ron"
The same busy haired girl gave her a curt wave before returning to her large book. The ginger waved at her without looking at her eyes. Sophie smiled, but she felt weird being in someone else's friend group. Harry must have sensed it because he passed her a dish of delicious gray jam and started to talk.
Sophie laughed and listened along to Harry tell her about Quidditch, but mostly she just felt anxious.
"..... anyways, this is the year is the Goblet of Fire. There's going to be students from other magic school like yours"
Sophie looked up, "There's more magic schools?"
"Yeah, I'm really excited. And there's going to be different challenges with a representative from each school. And there's dance called the Yule ball that's always fun. Or so I've heard. I've never been to one myself"
Harry grinned at her and Sophie looked away, blushing. If she was going to get through this year, she had to lie low. Sophie promised herself that no matter what, she was going to make sure her and her friends never put their name in the goblet.
The rest of the feast was fine. Every once and a while Sophie could see Keefe shuffling around his table. As soon as it was over, Sophie promised Harry she would meet up with him at the common room, then ran over to Keefe.
"Hey! Keefe!" Sophie called out.
He turned, happy to see her, but then something flashed across his face and he started walking away. Sophie sprinted to catch up and stopped him.
"Keefe, look, it's not that big of a deal. It's just a stupid house"
A few Hogwarts students shot her some dirty looks, but Sophie didn't care.
"Keefe-"
"I'm evil. Slytherin is evil. 'Cunning Slytherin' is another way to say evil"
Sophie thought for a second then she knew what was going on, "Keefe, you're not like your mother. You're different. You're amaizng, sweet, funny, kind. Do you think of this matters? Keefe, I-"
Sophie stopped herself and Keefe looked up. For second, they both leaned in, but a small squeal caused them to look away. Biana covered her mouth and apologized. Sophie was mortified.
Dex's ears were bright red and he wouldn't meet her gaze. Fitz looked at her with so much hurt in his eyes that Sophie had to look away.
"I- I have to go" Sophie explained quickly, then farted up the stairs Harry had told her about. They shifted under he feet and Sophie did a double take. A few students snickered her direction, but she ignored them. Sophie was out of breath by the time she reached the painting of the fat lady.
"Password?"
"What? Oh yeah, Balderdash"
The painting swung open without a creak. Sophie was careful to dodge Harry and his friends. As soon as Sophie's head hit her pillow, she felt so much better. She grabbed Ella from her trunk and switched off the light. If only she could undo her moment with Keefe.
