Sophie had barely slept that night. It was before the announcement of the winners that she felt tired and regretted putting her name in the Goblet. Harry had been doing his best to comfort her.
"Look, there's hundreds of kids from your school. One of them is bound to get it"
Sophie nodded and tugged at another eyelash. At this rate she would have none left by the end of the year.
Dumbledore silenced the students and began his speech, "We are very excited to host this year's Triwizard Tournament. We can only wish the best to the four lucky champions. Now, what you have all been waiting for, the champions"
Dumbledore held his hand in the air and a scrap of paper fell into it from the fire.
"Victor Krum!!!!"
The crowd cheered, but Victor kept a respectful face.
Dumbledore raised his hand again, but this time the a paper was blue and frilly. From the French school of course.
"Fleur De La Cour!"
The girls squealed and Sophie rolled her eyes. No doubt the girl wouldn't even last one minute. The next one was from Hogwarts.
Dumbledore smiled at the name, "Cedric Diggory!"
The crowd really went wild, Cedric must have been very popular. Sophie had pulled out three more eyelashes by the time Dumbledore reached the one for Foxfire.
His face frowned and he showed the paper to Professor McGonagall. "Sophie Foster"
The room was quiet.
"But she's fourteen!" Someone shouted.
Sophie's stomach filled with nerves as she walked down to Dumbledore.
He leaned in and whispered, "We will discuss those later"
She took her place next to the other champions and Dumbledore presented them, "Your Triwizard champions everyone!"
Instead of cheering, the crowd froze and Sophie saw what they were staring at. The Goblet sputtered out another piece of a paper and it fell into Dumbledore's hands.
He turned pale and said, "Harry Potter"
The crowd was angry and jeered at him as he took the paper from Dumbledore and stood next to Sophie. They clasped hands as they descended the stairs to the waiting room. Behind them the crowd cheered and exited the hall.
Harry and Sophie waited nervously in the chairs, unsure if either of them would be allowed to compete. The others competitors were silent, disapproving of the young contestants quite obviously.
Sophie could hear Dumbledore's yelling from the stairs. She turned around and saw the procession of teachers and headmasters following him, each giving their own opinion.
"Stop!" Dumbledore yelled.
He turned to Sophie and Harry, "Unfortunately, the Goblet has chosen you and you are forced to compete. But you have no idea what you have done. People die in these competitions"
Sophie stood up bravely, "Not us. We're going to win"
The teachers and headmasters rolled their eyes and muttered about too much confidence. Dumbledore waved is hands and dismissed the champions, "Leave, but beware. The challenge is in two days. You won't have much time to prepare"
Sophie smiled and Her and Harry took off up the stairs. Everything was working out. She was a champion and she would do everything needed to win.
