FLASHBACK

I rested my feet on the coffee table and flipped through the channels.

It was our prom night and Cooper decided to skip it just to be with me. I tried to convince her to attend but she just wouldn't.

When the school called my dad and told him everything, he wasn't happy but he understood why I acted the way I did; but my mom's husband had the audacity to lecture me like I'm his child. I quickly shut him down, apologized to my mom and walked out of the house.

I was greatly upset that I wasn't able to wear my beautiful dress that my father had made for us from England. I was even more upset that Copper didnt attend her prom, but she kept saying that she needed to stay home for her babies. Of course I knew that was a lie but I let her have the excuse and we planned to have a movie night instead.

Setting up the popcorn and chips, I picked out three movies: Shrek, Always Be My Maybe and Wine Country.

Yes I know I chose a cartoon. We love Shrek and we always will.

Popping in the first movie and jumping in my spot on the sofa, I immediately heard a gurgling noise next to me, I smiled as I turned around to peak in the bassinet that sat at the end of the sofa. When I peaked over, my eyes connected with a pair of brown ones as a curly brown haired baby boy stared back at me. He smiled and made another gurgling noise and I quickly sat up, so I had a better advantage to remove him before he woke up his sister and brother. I sat him in my lap and his cute little hands wrapped themselves around my fingers.

"Hey," Cooper came and sat next to me,

We both sported our matching pajamas since we couldn't wear our matching prom dresses. I looked over at Cooper and thought about the struggle she had to go through.

Cooper is a very pretty girl but she has had a very shitty life; She weighs 102 lbs and stands at 5 feet. Now I know what you all are thinking but let me tell you, this girl has a mean bite, so don't mess with her.

Cooper and I have been friends since elementary school, she was also friends with Vincent before he changed. She has had the toughest and worst life any kid should never have, way worse than what I went through! Her father is an alcoholic abusive man and her mother died when she was five, leaving behind two twin boys and Cooper to fend for themselves. Her brothers did their best to care for her and protect her from their father but even they get tired and beaten to submission sometimes.

I remembered when I told my dad about it and he went to their house to check on them. To say that Mr. Douglas deserved an acting award is an understatement; he deserved a damn Oscar! But my dad was smarter than that; you see he's a psychologist, so he can see what your hiding behind closed doors. He saw that Mr. Douglas has an emotional disorder and that when his wife died he wasn't able to control the many emotions that overtook him all at one time. And in order for him to release his frustrations, he began to drink and abuse his children. Well my dad took the case to CPS but whenever they went by the house they saw no signs of child abuse.

My dads house has always been their safe haven. Sometimes they would show up at the house late at night and my dad would let them in and set them up in our guest room. He treats them like his own children and that's what I love about my dad and that's how my friendship with Cooper grew to us becoming best friends.

"Hey," I say back to her,

"What did you choose to watch?" she ran her hand through her sons hair and smiled at him,

"I chose, Always be my Maybe," I lift up Ryder and crisscross my legs on the sofa. Setting Ryder back into my lap, I turn to Cooper, "I'm still mad at you for skipping our prom. I hope you will not skip our graduation as well."

She sighed but smiled at me, "I promise I won't skip our graduation."

I nodded my head in confirmation and we both began to watch the movie.

Two hours into the movie, Ryan and Ryot also woke up; so now we have three babies sitting on the sofa in between us and they each had a chip they were sucking on. We didn't mind having them there because they didn't cry or give us any problems; so we continued on to the next movie.

I don't know when I dosed off, all I know is I woke up to a pounding on the door. I moved a baby that was laying on me, into the bassinet, observing Cooper, she had Ryder in her arm and Ryan on her chest. I decided not to bother her. I glanced at the tv to see the credits still rolling from the previous movie.

There was another bang on the door. Oh right the door, I almost forgot!

I peek through the peep hole to see the last person I ever wanted to see.

He was dressed in a tux, his hair was messy and he looked out of breath. The scar was slightly healed on his face and his black eye has completely vanished. In his arms he had his phone and a rose, Why did he have a rose?

He banged on the door again and I jumped a little but I didnt open it.

"Bethany," my dad's voice came from behind me. I turn to see him placing Ryan in the bassinet, "are you going to answer that?"

I shook my head no, "he is the reason why I was prohibited to go to our prom and graduation."

He nodded in understanding. After placing the last baby in the bassinet, he walked over to me and rested his hand on my shoulder, "go sit on the couch and I'll take care of it."

I obeyed what he asked me to do. As my dad stepped outside to handle the situation, I returned my attention back to the tv.

Was I curious as to why he came by my house? Yes.

Am I curious as to why he had a rose? Yes.

I'm more curious as to why he even had me on his mind at all.

My thoughts were interrupted when my dad came back through. I couldn't read his facial expressions or his body language but I could tell he was making his way over to me.

"Beth, I have a message to deliver to you," before he was able to continue, I held up my hand and silenced whatever that was supposed to come out of his mouth,

"Thank you dad," I look back at the tv, "but I don't want to hear anything he has to say."

He kept his mouth shut and headed up the stairs.

I don't want to hear anything that bastard had to say.

Once my dad had retreated upstairs, I saw something in the corner of my eye. It was a rose, I'm guessing it was the same one he brought here and my dad placed it on the dinning table with a note next to it. I walk over to it, pick it up and without reading it, I tossed it in the trash.

I was done with everything Vincent Hawkins.
