A few things happened in the coming month that made me see Bethany in a whole new light.
I was way on a business trip in Dubai for a week, when I received a phone call from my office that the girls were never picked up from school. Now I had fired Amanda and replaced her with a new caregiver. It's common sense that if your a caregiver, you are constantly caring for the children, but I guess Sandra didn't get that memo. She was supposed to pick the girls up and watch them until I got back but after I got off the phone with her, it seems that she thought I would take to girls with me, which is unexceptional.
So now I have no idea where the girls are as I'm calling everyone I know. No one knows where they are and I'm in panic mode. I fire Sandra and took away her pay from the last week. I had the office go through the call logs and find out who called. They informed me that Bethany called and I automatically relaxed because I knew where my girls were and that they were safe.
It was Saturday morning when my jet landed and Patrick was waiting for me on the runway. The second I stepped off the plan I instructed him to take me to Bethany Knight's house. My office got a hold of her address from the school and reported to me that my personal office had three missed calls from Bethany herself from a week ago.
It didn't take Patrick no more than 20 minutes to get to her house, the girls were very special to him as well. Once we pulled up I ran up the steps and began to knock on the door.
I was stunned to see Bethany in pajamas. I forgot how long her legs were since she only wore long pants in high school.
"What the fuck Vincent!? Where the hell have you been for the past week?" She pushed me back and close the door behind her. When she crossed her arms over her chest, i realized she was uncomfortable and that she wasn't expecting it to be me at her front door, "the girls have been asking about you and I could never have an answer ready for them!"
I smile at her because she called me by my first name instead of my last name. I do t think she even noticed she did that. She looked at me, "why are you smiling? Is this not serious to you?"
"I'm smiling because you called me Vincent instead of Mr. Hawkins." She rolled her eyes and shifted her footing. I contain my excitement and got serious, "listen, I'm sorry."
"It's not me you need to apologize to. I had no problem watching the girls since you were MIA, but you do need to apologize to them." I nodded. I hated making the girls angry at me, so I'll make it my everything to make them forgive me, "where were you anyway?" She asked,
"I was in Dubai." her mouth dropped open in shock, "I thought Sandra was picking up the girls and she thought I was taking them with me."
"So it was a big miscommunication error between you both?"
"Yeah, but I fired her for that," I scratched the back of my neck, "thank you for watching them for me. I know they are a hassle to take care of..."
She burst out laughing, "Vincent, I helped raise triplets, twins are nothing compared to triplets!"
A slight breeze flowed over the front porch and she shivered a bit. I took my time and let my eyes take in the sight before me. My mission was interrupted when she spoke up,
"You need to hire Amanda back," her voice was stern and I had the urge to obey her, "she did nothing wrong."
I thought about it for a minute and realized that Amanda has been there for the girls since they were two years old. She knew everything about them and they were comfortable with her. "Fine, I'll have my secretary call her and rehire her,"
"Vincent, I don't mean, hire her for you, I'm telling you to hire her for the girls. She was good for them, she knew everything they needed. She needs to just focus on them and not on the office."
I rolled my head back and sighed because I realized my mistake when I fired her , "Okay, okay, okay. She will be just their caregiver only."
"Thank you. Now, come on, lets get your girls," She moved aside and let me in.
We ended up staying and eating breakfast with them. I was excited to see my girls after a week separated from them and I knew they had forgiven me because they showed no anger towards me.
I decided to cancel my meetings for the rest of the day and stay for the activities they had planned for the kids. We ended up having a big water balloon fight in the back yard, then a picnic. Jole showed up and played touch football with Ryder, Ryot and I, while the beautiful girls were our cheerleaders.
To say that this Saturday was one of the best Saturdays in my life would be an understatement because this Saturday was definitely going down in my memory book!
