Grey connected with blue.
Scorp remained frozen, simply staring at the redheaded girl who had stolen his heart long ago. She stared right back. Her blue eyes were wide, drinking him in. Automatically her hands dropped and began playing with the bottom of her longsleeved velvet dress.
His heart was beating wildly, but all he could do was stare. It'd been only four months since they last saw each other. Compared to nearly six years, it shouldn't have felt so long, but it did. He felt as if he was seeing her for the first time all over again. He drank in the bright blue eyes. The freckles covering every inch of pale skin. The long red hair. The light pink lips pressed into a firm line. Hands that shook slightly as they still played with the hem of the dress. Merlin, how he missed her.
They said nothing for a few minutes, both unsure of how to start. Rose took the opportunity to take in her surroundings. The walls were made up of bookshelves filled with dusty old books that refused to stay in place. They moved about freely, constantly changing places with one another. There were three desks arranged on the left side of the room and three armchairs on the far right-hand side. In the very middle stood a 3-foot tall glass case that used to contain a Celtic headpiece passed down from Malfoy to Malfoy. Rose thought of its new home in her bedroom and felt the sudden urge to put it on again.
She shook off that desire and focused her eyes on the man standing in front of her. His blonde hair was slightly longer than the last time she saw him, curling around the nape of his neck. He had shaved the scruff she'd grown accustomed to seeing, which left his skin looking smooth. Everything else remained the same. He was still tall with broad shoulders and an earth-shaking smile. He was dressed in dark slacks and a nice grey button-up that made his eyes darker, like a storm cloud.
"Hi." She finally said, breaking the safety of their silence.
At her words, his body seemed to regenerate. He stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him. He shoved his hands into his pockets. "Hi."
"How are you?"
"I've been alright. Working a lot."
Rose ran her barefoot across the gleaming marble floors, "Al told me. He said your presentations have been doing well. Says the Minister was impressed."
"Uh yeah," Scorp rubbed he back of his head, "The departments are taking to the presentations pretty well. Our reveal rate is already down by 17%. The Minister is so impressed she is talking about extending the program and making it a requirement for all new ministry recruits."
"That's amazing, Scorp. Are you still doing an eleven-hour session? Or did you manage to split it up into different days?"
"Are we really talking about my presentations right now?" He asked, already tired of the small talk. They were never ones to make small talk.
Rose bit her lip awkwardly, "I guess so."
Scorp took another step closer. "Why are you here, Rose?"
"I wanted to come last night, but I figured you were asleep. Plus I had to get up early to get you these." Rose pulled out two square pieces of paper and handed them to him.
He took them gingerly and read them over as Rose started rambling.
"They are for that muggle museum you told me about," Rose said in a rush. "I stopped by there this morning and picked them up. It wasn't very expensive, but I still thought it was a good gift. You know with Christmas and all. I was thinking maybe we could go together. Only if you want to." She added, crinkling her dress in between her hands. "I know it's Christmas so you're probably busy and the museum won't be open tomorrow, but I was thinking we could go next week or something. If that wo-"
