"Kendall! Annabelle's here!" I heard Alec call.

I groaned, not because I didn't want to see my best friend, but because I had been lying down the wrong way and I had a bad cramp on my side.

I few seconds later, my door creaked open and Annabelle peaked in through the door. Her long blond hair was up in a pony tail and she was carrying a bag of chips.

"Hey," Annabelle whispered.

"Dad let you bring up chips?"

"Yah, you know he lets me."

My dad had this rule about not bringing food upstairs. But Annabelle's an exception. It's because she'll find a way to sneak food upstairs anyway. Like I remember one time when we were 15 and she hid a bag of chips behind her and under her shirt and that was the day my dad broke his glasses. He was supposed to get contacts that day but obviously he couldn't. So when Annabelle walked right pass him, my dad just saw this huge lump on her back and told her that she had some type of acute elephantiasis (A.N: yes that's a real thing) and needed to go home.

"Kendall..... Spill. I want to know everything."

"Huh, oh yeah. So I was at Starbucks and bumped into this really hot guy and we drove me home and I asked for his number and I don't know what to do!!!" I said, exasperated

"Omigosh! I wish I had that happen to me!" Annabelle squealed

"Um, no. Because now I don't even know what I'm going to do! Should I text him, or should he text me? Or should we call each other?!?" I almost yelled

"Hmmm..... I say you should text him!"

I opened my mouth to object, but then I heard my text alert. I bet it was from one of my other friends, asking if they could come over. Reaching over, I picked up my phone and looked at the I.D. My mouth dropped open.

It was Jacob Carter.

I stared at phone, then at Annabelle, then back at my phone, dumbstruck

He actually texted me. Like, texted me!

"What is it?" Annabelle said, and plucked the phone right out of my hands before I could protest.

"OMG he texted you!!!!!!" Annabelle screamed

"Calm down it isn't a big deal...... What should I do?"

"Um, I don't know. What should you do when an incredibly hot guy just texted you? Maybe you should read it!!!"

Oh yeah

I took my phone out of her hands and typed in the password. I clicked on the messages app and opened up his text. It said:

"Hey Kendall. I just wanted to say hi. I kinda feel bad about the whole coffee incident so I ju-

My reading was interrupted by Annabelle's loud chewing of potato chips.

"Annabelle, I love you but would you kindly put those chips away because as you can see, I'm reading a text from a hot guy, like you suggested!"

Annabelle stopped in mid chew, swallowed and whispered "Sorry."

Returning to my phone, I finished reading the text:

I just wanted to say I'm sorry and that we should hang out sometime. Bye.

Wow, he was cheerful. But at least he said sorry!

"Annabelle, you gotta read this. But please don't get your potato-y chip hands all over my screen."

"Is potato-y even a word?"

"Just read the text!"

Annabelle quickly read the text, dropped my phone on my sheets, grabbed my shoulders and yelled:

"HE APOLOGIZED!!!!!!"

Uh, no shit Sherlock.

"Yes I read that Annabelle. Sooo, what should I do: Reply and say that we should hang out?"

"Yes! Obviously, he wants to get to know ya better!"

"Ok fine." I said in a monotone, but I was secretly very happy that he texted me. He was hot, and apologized. I mean, I should be excited, right?

I grabbed my phone and texted a quick reply:

"Hi Jacob! Apology accepted. And yes, we should hang out. How about at the park on Saturday. I'm free then."

I sent the message then locked my phone. I turned my back around to see that Annabelle was reading something on her phone.

"Hey, whatcha doin'"

She turned her head toward me

"Kendall, I have to go. My mom is stuck in traffic so she wants me to be home in time for dinner."

"Ok I understand" I said.

Annabelle's mom worked full time everyday and her dad went on a ton of business trips. Plus, her older sister, Lily was in college so she hardly saw any of her family. That's why my dad always let Annabelle come over.

Annabelle grabbed her bag of chips and hopped off the bed, walking out the door. I followed her until she got to the front door. Then she turned around and gave me a big hug.

"Hey I just wanted to tell you that I saw the book that your grandpa gave you on your desk. Kendall, your very strong, just know that."

I pulled back and looked at my best friend

"Annabelle, you're always there when I need you. You better get going if you want to be home by dark." I said, peering out the doorway.

"Yah, well, talk to you tomorrow bestie!" Annabelle smiled and walked out the door and to her car.

"Bye Annabelle!" I called back

I watched her back up into the driveway and down the road. Sighing, I walked back into the house, and shut the door behind me.
