I was currently sitting at the the dining table, in Jacob's house, eating the pizza his mom had made. I have to say, it was delicious. My dad could never make something like this in a million years. Sorry dad.
Anyway, I reached for a second slice of cheese pizza, which was the last piece, because Mona had eaten/ stolen all of the pepperoni ones. As I was about to lift up the slice, Mona jumped up and slapped by hand away.
"Mine!" She snapped.
I drew my hand back, feeling a little offended. I mean, it wasn't my fault she acted like a starving chipmunk. I think Jacob sensed my distress because he leaned over and whispered to me:
"Hey, Mona does that. You know, pizza is her thing."
I didn't want to argue with Mona because someone could get hurt, fast.
I was about to say that it was okay, but a huge clap of thunder suddenly boomed outside. I swear I jumped out of my seat a little.
"What the-" Jacob said. He quickly wiped his hand off with a napkin and stood up to go check the window.
Mona and I looked at each other.
"Hey, Kendall, you know it doesn't rain often in Malibu..." His voice trailed off.
"What is it?" I asked, confused.
He motioned his hand to me to come toward the window. I got up and went to the large window. I pushed back the maroon curtains and squinted my eyes, trying to see what Jacob was so worried about. Then I saw it. I gasped, and then did I a double take. How could this be happening?
It was a storm. A huge one. How did that happen so quickly?! It was just about a few hours ago that I came to his house and it was all clear skies and hot weather. Was I dreaming?
Suddenly I was pushed to the side and Mona scrambled to take my empty spot.
"Hey!" I said, rubbing my arm
Mona just turned her head and stuck her tongue at me. I glared at her and then leaned against the wall. I would hear the wind howling. Jacob came from the window and then leaned up against the wall next to me. We didn't look at each other.
"So, this is some hell of a storm, isn't it." He said
"Yeah, it is." But I was worried. With all this wind and rain of sort, it would be dangerous to get home.
Then Mona threw back her head and screeched:
"AUNT SARAH!!!!!!!"
Sarah must have been Jacob's moms name, it was pretty. I liked the name Sarah.
Mrs. Carter came bolting into the room.
"Ok Mona, oh please don't tell me you set a lamp on fire again!"
Um, wow.
"NO I didn't! Besides, that wasn't my fault. I was trying to light a candle but Jacob came in and bumped me and the lamp fell onto the ground and I dropped the match, and well, the whole thing lit on fire!" Mona said, pointing at Jacob
"Well, no one is hurt, this time. So what seem to be the problem?" She asked, placing her hands on her hips.
"Well, Mrs. Carter," I said. "There seems to be some type of weird storm outside..." I motioned my hands toward the window.
"Hmmm, let me see..." she walked to the window and Mona moved away (surprisingly). As soon and she peaked her head through, she gasped and drew the curtains tighter tightly.
"What in the world?" She whispered
"Um, yeah Mom, it's pretty bad." Jacob said nervously
"Let's turn in the news." We all followed Jacob's mom into the living room. We all sat on the couch and Mona buried herself in her couch cushions, again.
