The next day, I decided that sore shoulder or not, I was going to get my beloved gift card. Crawling out of bed, I threw on a floral dress that ended a little above my knees, a jean jacket and grey Toms. I grabbed my wallet and handbag and went down the stairs, this time, not falling down.
"Dad, can I take the car?" I called to him. My dad came into the room, carrying a bunch of books. It looked like he was up all night typing up a paper about some drug.
" Uh, sure Kendall, just don't kill yourself"
Dad, seriously. I think all of that staying up all night was getting to him.
"Ok, bye!" I grabbed the car keys and walked out of the front door to the Honda Civic parked on the driveway. I got it and drove down the street to the local Barnes and Nobles. After parking the car, I literally skipped down the sidewalk into the store. Just as I was opening the door, I stopped to see an old lady staring at me like I was crazy. I looked back then realized that she must have been freaked out to see me skipping down the sidewalk, although the I don't know why.I slowly looked away then went inside the store. Walking to the front desk, I rung a little bell until a clerk came.
" Um hello, I won a gift card for 25 dollars yesterday," I told the man
"Did you win it here or online"
" I came here about last week and entered my name in," I said
" I'm sorry but I card has been given away"
"Excuse me?" This was crazy! I won that damn gift card and it has been given away??
"Ma'am please don't raise your voice. You were supposed to retrieve the gift card yesterday when you won it. I just gave it away to the first person who spent 50."
No way.
" Is that even legal?!? I won that gift card fair and square and I demand to get it!!" I almost yelled to him.
I turned around to see a mom and her little girl staring at me like I was crazy. I just looked back a told that man the he could A: please find me another gift card or give me a discount on a book, or B: that I was going to complain to the manager. The man told me that he could do no such thing and that I was to leave because I was causing a disturbance.Appalled, I grabbed by wallet and stormed out! I was so angry!!!! Like seriously! That guy had the nerve to do that to me!!!! I won that gift card fair and square. I bet he was new. I had never had that happen to me before, but enough of my rant.
Driving down the street, I decided that I was going to go to Starbucks and drown my sorrows in coffee. And I don't even like coffee. See, that's how irritated I was right now.
I parked the car and slammed the door shut, almost on my fingers. Walking through the door, I could smell some type of exotic coffee and cookies. I waited in the line until it was my turn to order."Hello welcome the Starbucks what can I get for you today?" The barista asked. She had one big gold hoop earrings and had on really bright red lipstick.
" Hi I would like to get a pumpkin spice latte and a packet of madeleines please." I really loved Madeleine's. I had some sort of addiction to them. Really.
" Ok that will be $7.35 please. May I have your name?"
I handed her the money and told her my name and sat down at a table. Then I took out my phone and started texting my friend Annabelle. She had been my best friend since like forever. Annabelle was really chirpy but she got really mad when someone messed with her. And she is a risk taker. Like I mean she would skydive off of the Empire State.
"Hi Annabelle! What up"
She replied a minute later
" Oh nothing much. You wanna hang out later and my place?"
"Ok how about tomorrow?"
"Sure! See ya tomorrow bestie!!😄"
"Bye!😄"
Right at that second I heard my name."I have a pumpkin spice latte for Kendall!"
My cup was placed on the little stand in front or the bar table.
I walked over and picked up my cup. It was really hot so holding it by the cap, I walked to the cream and sugar station. I like my drinks a little sweeter so I opened the cup and poured a packet of sugar in. The delicious smell of cinnamon arose from the cup. I snapped the cap on the cup, placed it in one of those cardboard cup holders and turned around and walked to the exit. Right and that second, I ran right into a muscular chest and it knocked me off my feet. My hand let go of the coffee cup and the burning coffee spilled all over my drees and my hands. I closed my eyes just as I hit the floor. And just my luck, I landed on my sore shoulder. Ouch. Opening my eyes and holding back tears, I realized everyone in the room was staring at me on the floor. And looking up, my eyes met the eyes of a teenage boy who, I'm not going to lie, had the most beautiful blue eyes I had every seen. And he was staring down at me, all in my coffee covered glory.
Oh crap.
