Next thing I knew, I was sitting on Jacob's couch. In his living room. In his house.
You probably want to know how I got here in the first place. Well, after we finished fishing Mona out of the fountain, she told us how some guy named Pedro just walked up to her and handed her a burrito and knowing Mona, she couldn't turn down free food. But when she had jumped into the fountain, her burrito had gotten all soggy and Jacob wouldn't let her eat it, so he threw it away. Then Mona started screaming at him, saying how she was gong to kick his ass and stuff like that. Annabelle and I had to hold her back and at some point a security guard walked past us, giving us a funny look. We stopped for that moment because there was no way I could have getting arrested by a guard on my record. My dad would kill me. Literally. Anyway, so we had to drag Mona into the parking lot and Annabelle volunteered ME to take Mona in my car to Jacob's house so she wouldn't slaughter Jacob. I was about to slaughter somebody right now, and you know who that was. It's not like I didn't want to go to Jacob's house, it's that I was so nervous. What if Mona was his girlfriend? It would be awkward. Going on, as we stuffed Mona into the back seat of my car, Annabelle kept whispering into my ear about how hot Jacob was and things like that and at one point, I just blocked her out. Fast forward, we all arrived at Jacob's house and Mona had finally calmed down, but when we got out, she was still shooting daggers his way. Not real daggers, but you know what I mean. And then Jacob's mom let us in and here we are. Me sitting on Jacob's couch.
Jacobs's house really well decorated. Many pieces of art hung on the warm, brown walls. The dark, hardwood floors gave it a modern look, along with the blown glass figures.
Mona was also sitting next to me, but not really sitting I should say because she was buried in couch cushions. Don't ask me where she got them, but that were couch cushions. I was a little scared about that because if I maybe accidentally said something wrong, I was afraid that Mona might chuck one of those cushions at my face and that would not end well. Couch cushions are not as light as they look. Really.
Anyway, I was feeling out of place sitting in his couch. It was just so awkward for me. I mean Mona could be Jacob's girlfriend, but honestly, I thought she was a little high strung. I started fiddling with my fingers, wondering why I had even come here. Oh yeah, it was because of Annabelle. She even left me alone here because she had to go home and help her mom. I mean I love her and understand, but still.
Suddenly, I felt the couch cushions sink a little and I stiffened. I turned my head around to see Jacob sitting next to me.
"Oh hey," I said
"Hey," he said back, flashing his bright blue eyes at me
I loved his eyes
Oh God, I need help
We sat in an awkward silence, while Mona was still covered in her couch cushions.
"You know, I don't think Mona likes me very much." Jacob said, breaking the silence
Wait what?
"Oh, why's that?" I asked
"I think it's because the last time I came over to her house, I accidentally dropped her pizza, and Mona is obsessive with pizza. She called me an idiot, so yeah, I don't think she's upon very good terms with me. I don't see her much, so I thought she may have gotten over it."
Ok now I'm more confused
"Then maybe you should break up with her, I mean if she thinks you're an idiot." I blurted out without thinking
Jacob gave me a puzzled look, them started to laugh
"Oh, you thought Mona was my girlfriend?!" He said breathlessly between laughs
"Yeah, I mean, I thought..." I felt the heat rising in my cheeks
Oh dang it why did I have to say that?
Now I seemed like the idiot
"Sorry," I mumbled, feeling very low of myself
"Oh, you don't need to apologize, you did nothing wrong. But the thought of Mona being my girlfriend..." he said
"Then, what is she?" I just had the urge to know
"Mona's my cousin."
Oh cousin! I totally knew that!
Not
I was about to say something else, but before I could say it, a blue t-shirt flew over my head. On instinct I ducked, like a t-shirt was going to hurt me anyway.
I looked around to see Mona bent over a black dufflel bag in the corner of the room, throwing an assortment of clothes over her head.
"JACOB CARTER WHERE IS MY SNAPBACK??!?!?" Mona shrieked, standing up
"Mona, what in the world would I do with your SnapBack?" Jacob said exasperated, as if he had heard the question too many times before.
"Wear it of course!" Mona screamed and walked over to Jacob and poked her finger at his chest
"You have to go find my SnapBack!"
"Mona please I don't have time for this!" Jacob threw his hands in the air
I just sat there, listening to their argument.
Mona whirled around and grabbed a couch cushion
Uh oh
"Hey guys! You want pizza?" A voice called from the kitchen
The fighting ceased and we all turned our heads toward the kitchen. Jacob's mom walked out carrying a pair of oven mitts. She had the same hair color as Jacob, jet black, but her eyes were a hazel brown.
Mona dropped the couch cushion and ran toward the kitchen without saying a word. I stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to do.
"Jacob , maybe your friend would like to stay over for pizza?" Jacob's mom asked, smiling at me
"Oh, no I couldn't, I have to get back home before dark." I said, trying to be polite
"Nonsense, please, it's my treat."
"Kendall, I would really like it if you stayed," Jacob said. I could sense him pleading in his voice
I couldn't say no. Besides, that pizza did smell good.
"Oh all right, I guess I could have a slice," I shrugged
We both walked to the kitchen and sat down at the table
"Thanks Kendall, if you didn't stay, I wasn't sure what Mona would have done to me." Jacob whispered into my ear
"Hey no problem!"
We both smiled at each other and for once in a long time, I felt like I had been part of a happy family.
A/N: Sorry if this was short! 😁
