That Awkward Conversation

"Um hey Jacob," I said

I was feeling very feverish because of what happened in the kitchen and his sexy voice did not make it any better

"Hi Kendall. I can come on Saturday to the park, I just wanted to let you know"

Suddenly, I felt cheerful again.

"Oh that's great! So, other than the coffee incident, what's new?" I wanted to seem like I was making conversation so it wouldn't make the whole thing more awkward than it already was.

"Nothing I guess. Just have summer work and stuff like that"

"Same here. So, I think we should get to know each other better"

"And why do you say that?" He asked

"Well, I just want to find out if you're not a murderer so I don't get killed when we meet on Saturday"

Then he laughed. A beautiful laugh. It was a smooth, throaty laugh and I felt like everything inside me was melting. I loved his laugh. Like, really loved it.

"Haha what?" I asked, trying not to sound stupid

"Oh it was nothing! I just thought it was really cute that you thought that I was going to murder you in the park."

He thought it was cute.

My heart started to beat fast, like it never did before when I talked to a boy. It just felt weird, like good and bad at the same time.

"Anyway," I said, trying to change the subject so I didn't start to sound like a dying whale over the phone
"What's your favorite subject?"

I just asked him what his favorite subject was? Wow, what was wrong with me?! I probably sounded like the most uninteresting person in the whole world.

" I like Math," he said. "I've always been good at it and I like working with numbers"

"Wow, I'm actually terrible in math. I really love astronomy though. Like learning about the stars and space and things like that. It always fascinates me."

" Hey that's cool. You know, I could help you in math. I mean, if you want me to. Not like a tutor or anything, but like if you need help, I can give it to you." He said slowly

He wanted to help me.

"Haha sure!" I honestly don't even know why I laughed, I guess it just sounded better than hyperventilating. Hey, it happens!

"Sooo, um yeah. What else?" I asked.

"Nothing I guess. I should do back to doing my summer homework. My mom hates it when I procrastinate."

I wish my mom was here to tell me not to procrastinate.

"Yeah I guess I should do that too." I honestly didn't want our little awkward conversation to end, but it looked like it was.

"Well, I guess this is good bye until Saturday." he said

Saturday was in 2 days. YES!!! Wait.... Why am I so excited? I guess it's just because I really never had a guy friend that I've been able to talk to.

"Yeah. Well, see you later Jacob! Nice speaking to you!" I said a little to chirpy for my liking. What was going on?

"Well, yah. Bye Kendall!" He said

Then I heard the beeping over the phone, signaling that he had hung up.

I bring the phone down from my ears.

Then I realize that my plate of spaghetti is still sitting on the table. I guess I could eat it later. I hated to see food go to waste. Grandpa told me never to throw away food.

I got out a container, dumped my spaghetti into it and then put it in the fridge.

I turned around to see my dad, looking at me with sad eyes.

"Hey dad," I said, feeling sad.

"Kendall, I would like to talk to you in my office." My dad spoke it in a soft stern voice, but I could see he was hiding his emotions

"Ok dad."

Then I followed him into the living room and up the stairs, so we could clear up a few things.

Hi guys! Sorry if this was a little short. I've been busy studying for tests, but winter break for me is the day after tomorrow so I'll have more time to write! Thanks!
