Angel on fire

I woke up with a start and looked around to see I was in a hospital room. I saw Lauren and Camila both asleep next to me in chairs and I searched my body for a gun wound, but found none.

It was a dream? If I wasn't shot, why am I in the hospital?

"Camila, Lauren?" I croaked out, my voice raspy.

Camila shot up. "Y/N! You're awake! I was so scared!" She hugged me tightly making me wince. My body was sore.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Lauren looked at us. I looked at both of them confused. "What happened? Wasn't I shot?"

Camila's eyes grew wide. "Shot?! No! You wouldn't wake up when we tried to wake you the morning after the attack."

"I-It was all a dream...?" I looked down and my hands started shaking as tears filled my eyes.

"Oh, goodness. Y/N please don't cry..." Lauren hugged me.

"What was the dream about?" Camila asked.

I looked down and fiddled with my fingers. "N-Nothing important...."

I said and sat up.
After a few moments of silence the doctor came in and said that I was just having the normal sleep problems following the concussion and that this would happen a few times.

When we left the hospital Camila looked at me from the rearview mirror.

"Y/N. I'm dating Lauren." She spoke and I looked up to meet her eyes.

"I know." I said and she furrowed her eyebrows.

"I saw you two kiss before I fell asleep the night it happened."

She made an "O" expression and we pulled up to the house.

I went straight up to my room and looked around. Banners were up and there were streamers hung up.

"Happy Birthday Y/N." They said.

I missed my birthday...

I looked to see a guitar in the corner with a bow around it.

I grabbed it and strummed.
I sighed and started writing. I made sure my door was locked before converting the writing into a song on the guitar.

"I woke up to another mess in the living room
Broken bottles all around my feet
They came again in the night under crescent moon
Didn't wake me in my sleep
'Cause they talk and drink and laugh 'bout things
And fall in love in my backyard
I hide and cower in the corner
Conversation's getting hard
'Cause nobody seems to ask about me anymore
And nobody seems to care 'bout anything I think
And nobody seems to recognize me in the crowd
In the background screaming, "everybody, look at me"
And I'm faded away, you know, I used to be on fire
And I'm faded away, you know, I used to be on fire
I'm standing in the ashes of who I used to be
And I'm faded away, you know, I used to be on fire
You know, I used to be on fire
You know, I used to be on fire, fire
I used to be a darling starlet like a centerpiece
Had the whole world wrapped around my ring
I flew too closely to the sun that's setting in the east
And now I'm melting from my wings
'Cause I'd laugh and drink and talk 'bout things
And fall in love in my backyard
Now it's my own anxiety
That makes the conversation hard
'Cause nobody seems to ask about me anymore
And nobody ever cares 'bout anything I think
And nobody seems to recognize me in the crowd
In the background screaming, "everybody, look at me"
And I'm faded away, you know, I used to be on fire
And I'm faded away, you know, I used to be on fire
I'm standing in the ashes of who I used to be
But I'm faded away, you know, I used to be on fire
You know, I used to be on fire
You know, I used to be on fire
Well, I used to be on fire
You know, I used to be on fire
You know, I used to be on fire
You know, I used to be on fire, fire"

I got my feelings out. I sang my heart out. That dream really fucked with me and I don't know how to feel right now...

I sighed and set the guitar down, checking the time. 1am.

Great. Now I can't sleep.

I got up and changed into a shirt and jeans. I went outside and walked barefoot on the sand.

I looked out at the moon and sat with my knees to my chest, just watching the waves crash onto the shore.

A sigh left my lips as I just sat there, thinking.

"What are you doing out here so late?" A young, feminine voice spoke.

I looked up to see a girl that was a bit taller than me.
"I could ask you the same thing." I smiled.

She sat beside me and dug her feet into the sand. "Jet lag really sucks." She spoke and looked out at the moon.

"Recovering from a concussion."
I spoke as I followed her gaze. "Ooh, that sucks. What happened?"

"Well. Let's just say I was friends with some very bad people and when I stood up for myself, they didn't like it." I sighed and she gently grabbed my hand.

"I'm sorry." She said as she rested her head on my shoulder.

"If it makes you feel any better, I'm known as the girl who relapsed and almost ruined her life." She sighed and I wrapped my arm around her.

"Not to me. To me you're the girl who sat with me under the moonlight, gazing at the beautiful sandy beach of Miami." I said and she cracked a smile.

"I'm Demi." She looked up at me.
"Y/N." I said as I brushed some hair away from her face.

"Well, since we both can't sleep, how about we both go to my place and watch some movies?" Demi asked, making me chuckle.

"As long as you're not some serial killer, than yes." She laughed and shoved me playfully.

I got up and helped her onto her feet. She then lead me into the house beside mine.

We then binged watched shows while eating popcorn and joking about how stupid the characters are.

I was carefree. And happy.
