"Broadside, go for those two vulture droids! I got them in sight!" Mal exclaimed to Broadside as he acknowledged and flew his bomber towards the two vulture droids that stuck out and Mal fired the blasters at them. "Great shot, kid!"
"Thanks!"
Taking down the vulture droids was a piece of cake for Mal since she use to do target practice when she wasn't doing training with another youngling back at the temple. The vulture droids came, but Mal felt they were only a distraction so that the Malevolence could prepare their real attack.
And unfortunately, she was right. Just as she shot another vulture droid down, the weapon had went off and Mal saw it approaching them quickly. : Fly over it's borders now! : Anakin shouted through the commlink as Broadside made his way flying vertical. Mal watched the blast get closer, afraid that it was going to catch them.
"Hang on, kid!" Broadside shouted to Mal. She gripped the blaster handles tightly, her mind slowly starting to clear of all noises. She began to calm down when Broadside had returned the bomber back to it's normal position.
: Shadow Squad, check in. :
: We lost Shadow 6, 7, and 10. They were caught in the blast. : Mal's heart dropped when she heard this. She looked at the fighters that were now floating in space and Mal's chest burned with sorrow as she saw it.
"I'm sorry, guys.." Mal mumbled while pressing her palm against the glass. She felt guilty. She wished she could save them, she wished there was some way to save their lives, but she didn't have the power to do so.
"It's not your fault, kid. Don't blame yourself." She heard Broadside say, her eyes went wide as she did. She didn't realize she said it out loud, but that didn't matter anymore. All that mattered was destroying that weapon so it didn't kill anyone else.
: Alright, Shadow Squadron! There's the bridge! : Mal heard Anakin shout over the comms as Mal shook her head out of her trance. She wanted to protest and tell Anakin that it was a bad idea, that they were going to die. But with all the chaos that was going on, it was difficult for her to concentrate.
As they approached the bridge, Mal shot at incoming vulture droids and even taking out some guns on the ship. But that didn't stop her from feeling disturbed by the fact that two more of the bombers had went down.
"Someone needs to tell Master Skywalker that this is a mistake!" Mal shouted to Broadside as she took out another vulture droid. : Master, you can make it! But everyone else is getting shot down! : She heard Ahsoka exclaim.
: General Skywalker, if we do enough damage to the ion cannon, it should fire back onto the ship when Grevious goes to use it! : Plo Koon suggested before there was a moment of silence.
: Alright, new target. We're going for the Starboard Ion Cannon. : Anakin finally said as Mal sighed in relief and smiled. "Alright, I'm ready!" Mal exclaimed as the bombers made their way towards the weapon. Mal could see the weapon charging up and glared slightly at it. "Ready to fire, kid!"
"I'm on it!" Mal exclaimed in determination as the bombers circled the beams on the weapon, her thumbs hovering over the triggers and ready to shoot. : Get ready! Now! :
Mal fired the torpedoes and they flew at the beams on the weapon, a couple of the beams exploded. Mal's heart began to race as the squad flew away from the ship, watching as it began to charge up.
"Did we do it?" Broadside asked as Mal continued to watch, the weapon ready to fire. But instead of firing at them, the weapon fired back onto the ship.
"Yes! We did it!" Mal cheered, Broadside cheering with her as she did. : Great shot, Maleshei. :
"Thank you, Master." Mal said before she looked at ANAKIN'S bomber. "Awesome shot, 'Soka!"
: You too, Mal! : Ahsoka complimented before Mal looked forward and saw the Defender in view. "Master Kenobi's here!"
