More or Less framed an enemy

James and I frantically opened the door, tripping over each other on the way there.
"Adam. What's wrong?" He said obviously shocked. Adam had never acted this way before, especially to just randomly show up at James's doorstep. Speaking of houses, I haven't been to mine in a long time. However, we have more pressing matters at hand.
"Neighbor. Who. .  Is.. Your neighbor!" He stammered , trying to catch his breath as he ran into the house.
"She said her name was. . .  Karen? I think." I sigh. I should have known why he was so shaken. How could I have been so clueless.

She's never home as James notices.
When she is home, she is alone. There is no car ever there, even when she is home. And when she isnt, he dog is loose.
People try to avoid the house at all costs, which is surprising because this is Karen, his psychotic ex.

Let's give a bit of history shall we?
Karen Hoscins. She was one of Adams best friends. When Adam and I would talk on the phone back when I lived away, he would gush about her. That changed over the course of a month of them dating.
I got many phone calls asking for help. Every time she was with him she would steal his phone, claiming he had no right to talk to another girl such as me. She would message me, block me, even threaten me. I had done nothing but be good to Adam.
One day, I got a call saying that they had split. He had been receiving anonymous threats about the stupidest things, initially being framed as the enemy of the authorities instead of the one who is actually innocent.

"It's her. Isn't it y/n?" Adam asked with a pained expression . I could only nod, being lost in thought.

Adam explained the night she had broken into his house. He explained everything she has said. She had gotten worse since the last time I had seen her. I tried to be as helpful as possible, but there wasn't much I could do at that moment.

Suddenly there was a scream coming from her house. It was icy, pained, and scared.
I didn't know what to do. I was no hero, only an animator. This made absolutely no sense.

Adam scrambled for the door, locking it instantly.
"What just happened?" James asked, a bit scared but not wanting to show it.
" Who knows? All I know is that better not be one of us in a few minutes. " He glared at James, as if accusing him of being a wuss.

Within seconds there was a knock at the door, I grabbed James hand and squeezed it reassuringly. I could tell this was not going to end well.

"Adam, I know you are in there!" She screeched . Yep, that was definitely Karen.
We decided to play along.
"What is it you want?" Adam nudged my shoulder, as if begging me not to say anything.
"Adam. I think I have made that clear haven't I?"
" Obviously not. " I mumbled under my breath.
"He isn't here." James spoke up.
"Yeah!" I agreed awkwardly with a faint smile at my stupidity .

"You take me for a fool?" She asked, offended.
"Haven't we made that clear?" I shot back at her, waiting for whatever snarky comment she had.

" I have waited long enough! " she screamed once more.
"It would pain you to know that I am holding your one night stand hostage Adam." His face paled for a moment before turning dark red with anger.

"Let her go!" He shouted. I could hear her smirk through her voice, she knew she had won.
" I knew you where there! Now if you care to see her again, you must come with me! " I nodded at James, who was grabbing the phone and running out of the room to call the police without being heard.
"You think this is some kind of joke!?" He screamed once more, voice breaking at the thought of losing Jane.
" Well, it is quite amusing! " she bellowed, cackling like an old witch. She looked like one at least.

James had came back into the room, grabbing me hand. He leaned to my ear.
"They are on their way, just distract her for a few more minutes."
I nodded, telling the same to Adam.

I smirked through my words, no more fear was shown in my eyes. I was confident now.
"Keep talking bitch! No one's listening. " which was a lie, Adam was on the verge of tears.
I shot him a smile, which I've gave a faint one back at me. He was broken.

Within the next couple of minutes, the sirens where heard in the distance, pulling into the driveway.
"Wait! You're making a mistake!" She wailed as they put her in the back of the police car. She had tried to escape but failed multiple times.

Adam ran over to Karen's home, opening the door quickly and began shouting for Jane.
"Oh God!" He cried, running over to her. She was tied to a chair with a bandana over her mouth, leaving her speechless. We quickly untied her and carried her back over the James's house.

The rest of the night was spent talking, trying to get out minds off of the situation at hand. Adam would most likely have to go to court with Jane. This was going to be a hassle.

I leaned over on James's shoulder in the couch, drifting in and out of consciousness. I didn't realize just how tired I was. That is, until I had fallen asleep.
