It feels like I've been standing outside the door forever

It feels like I've been standing outside the door forever. In reality, though, it's only been a few seconds.

One of my hands runs through my hair, and my left foot is tapping against the ground anxiously as I wait.

Because I need to see Caia, urgently. Because I know what she's done. Because I need to thank her.

I was surprised when Ma called me about half an hour ago to tell me how the interview went. Well, I wasn't surprised when she called, but I was surprised about what she said.

She'd been confused when she showed up and she was the only one waiting, and when they offered her the job at the end of it, she'd been ecstatic.

The sticker of our conversation though, was that she only hoped that Caia hadn't arranged it to be like that.

Frankly, I don't care if she did, but it did raise a few questions. After all, this was the first I was hearing about Caia's involvement in this.

Then when Ma told me the firm she was now going to be working at, it all clicked into place.

A bit like the door clicking as it slowly opens.

A wide smile spreads across my face as it opens, but falls quickly when I see who's on the other side of the door.

Isaac.

And he's just in a towel. And water is dripping down his body. And he's just in a towel.

What is he even doing here?

His eyes narrow into a glare, but then he shakes his head and the glare is gone. Replaced with a look of regret and remorse.

Then I see Caia heading out from the living room - probably to answer the door - but Isaac's already taken care of that.

Judging by his naked state and how messed up her hair is, it's very possible that he's taken care of her too.

Her eyes go back and forth between myself and Isaac. No, they're not going back and forth, they're darting, and getting bigger and bigger with every glance.

Because she knows how this looks.

I smile sadly as I shake my head, and (carefully) step backwards off of the doorstep. My hands bury themselves in my pockets and I turn to walk away, and I can hear Caia rushing towards the door.

And then hushed voices.

Whispers.

It feels intimate.
