'Are you excited about your date?' Josh teases.
I roll my eyes as I adjust the sleeves of my jumper. 'It's not a date. I'm just going to the cinema with Jen.'
Josh looks at Arden and the two share a sly smile.
'If it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, and it walks like a duck -' Josh begins.
He's interrupted by Arden finishing his little saying. 'Then it's a date!'
The two burst out into laughter and I'm staring at them, wondering who I ticked off to have to put up with them. They take a break from their laughter to look up at my face, which for some reason only makes them laugh even more.
'So strange,' I mutter as I shake my head and walk to the hallway to get my coat. 'Can I trust you two to not burn the house down?'
'God, you start a small fire that's put out in like a minute one time and you never live it down,' I hear Josh moan, and when Arden laughs (causing Josh to let out an annoyed groan) I know that he's not going to tease me about my not-a-date-date anymore.
Because it's not a date. I think. It's just two friends hanging out. Like Calliope and I do. Or Arden on the rare occasion that Josh isn't around. Or any of the boys.
It's a friend date. Yeah, that works. A friend date.
I head back into the living room to find the two of them snuggled up together. It's cute, in a nauseating kind of way, but I know I only find it so nauseating because I don't have that.
Maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if tonight did turn into a date. I mean, Arden and Josh are in the middle of their loved-up weekend, Parker is probably recovering from that blonde he took home last night (if she's even left his place yet). I'm pretty sure Zach is seeing a girl from home that he hasn't told us about yet.
Then there's Calliope and her special plans with Isaac this weekend, and I can't help but wonder how it's going, and whether it's everything that she wanted it to be.
'He's so cute!' Arden says to Josh, 'look at him looking all nervous.'
I roll my eyes at her. 'Thanks, Mum,' I say, which only makes her laugh more.
'Now don't forget your curfew is ten!' Josh adds on, continuing on the joke, and now they're in on it, it makes it a lot less fun for me.
'Oh piss off,' I tell them, turning on my heel and walking out of the room.
'We love you, sweetie!' Arden calls out, and then I hear a yelp and I know Josh has started tickling her. You get used to the signs after a day or so with them. Why they couldn't stay at Arden and Calliope's I don't know. It's not like anyone is there. They could've had the whole place to themselves.
