It is not always expertise, skills and perfections that revolutionize a life. But most of the times its hardships, lessons and imperfections which transform a life. Same disaster designed the life of four individuals differently. Rape was the disaster and decision of individual's was the depiction of her attitude if she was going to take it as a trauma or as an opportunity to redefine an ordinary life.
Interpretation
Apart from stigmatization, oppression and conservative thought process of society, all these ladies came out of their trauma differently. We can witness a mindset in their statements, the 16 years old girl and Gulnaz let the others to determine their fate.
"My hope is that maybe, someday people will understand that I didn't deserve to suffer this and it is not my fault."( 16 years old girl)
"I didn't have any other option, my family didn't want me and I don't have anyone else, In the end I had to do it. I want my daughter to become something as I was nothing." ( Gulnaz )
But still both are survivors who did not give up on life, instead of suicide they have chosen life. They must be respected. While 17 years old girl and Mukhatran bibi were part of almost similar culture and society but they decided to work for other victims. They did not survive only but they decided to work for humanity and I would call it "victory''.
"I don't bother to think if I deserve this or not. My focus is what I am going to be now. I see myself in the future, standing for those who suffer and I took another way to this life.'' ( 17 years old girl)
"Life and death are in the hands of Allah... I will not shut my school and other projects," (Muktaran Mai)
There is a clear difference in both approaches where one is putting hopes in other people, wants acceptance from others, see themselves nothing but victims. On the contrary the second approach where one doesn't wants acceptance or sympathies but takes the charge for other victims.
Important questions we have to deal with
From where these differences come from ? What made people to think if they are something or nothing ? What actually made people to leave their pain behind and stand for others ? What is the source of courage ? Where to put the hope for humanity ? From where these brutal and inhumane tendencies arise from ? Its a long way to go.
