Ben was about to go back to his dorm when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Savannah. He wondered why she grabbed him, but walked away. He went to take out his Prone, which was how he communicated with other people. Vanessa called it texting and face calling. Well, everyone did. Ben read a book once and it was about the stories he had been told. One told about a device just like their Prones, but it was called a Phone. Ben wondered where they came up with a name like that. The chapter didn't tell him much about these so called phones, but it told him that another world called them phones and that in the other world they play games, text, call, and facetime. Ben assumed that facetiming was like face calling.

When he took out his prone, he noticed the digital old fashioned watched that sat on his wrist. Ben never learned why the watch would just appear, but nobody noticed him when he had the watch on. Everyone acted differently. This time, the watch had an arrow pointing forwards. He followed the arrow until it pointed right, towards the doors.

Ben walked out the doors, hoping that nobody would see him. Ben had never been sent to The Grang's office and he didn't intend to do so when he was following a watch that nobody could see. The arrow led Ben to the forest. Ben followed it and it wasn't long before he found a girl who was standing in front of a tree her mouth open so wide that Ben could count her teeth. Ben figured she couldn't see him, so he started to walk past the tree.

"Your Benjamin, right? I think we have mythology together." The girl startled him. The he heard her whisper underneath her breath, "What am I talking about he probably can't see me, just like everyone else."

"I can see you. Wait, your acting the same as you do in mythology, why are you not acting like everyone else."

"I don't know, but I could ask you the same question. It is like every time this watch appears on my wrist everyone gets really weird and they have fake memories of me."

"Yeah. The same thing happens to me." Ben couldn't believe that someone else had the same thing happening to them. It felt nice that he was able to tell Zoe about what happened to him, but he couldn't remember when it started or how it started. All either of them could remember was that everyone gets really weird when the are wearing the watches.

"Do you think this portal has something to do with it?" Zoe asked. Ben shrugged.

"How do you know that it is a portal?"

"Do you ever read the entire book before class?"

"No, and why do you do that?"

"There is no rule against it, but later this year, we will learn about portals. I didn't believe that portals and phones and all that other stuff was real, but I think that it is now."

"Do you think we should go in?"

"Yeah! I have been wanting to enter for so long now."

"How long have you been out here?"

"Not to long, but I have always wanted to see a portal. Even if they were just a myth. I personally think that all the stories kids tell are just myths, nothing more than some kids wanting something interesting to happen."

"I have no idea what you are talking about"

"Life here is really boring, I am sure that you agree."

"Why would you think that I agree with you?"

"It is obvious that you fall asleep in all of your classes."

   "How do you know that?"

"You fall asleep in the best class in the entire school."

   "What do you mean?"

"In mythology we play games and don't do to much learning, but you wouldn't know that because all you do is sleep through the class."

"We only have mythology together, how would you know what I do in my other classes."

"Oh come on! You really think you can make me think that I haven't had the teachers that you do, plus I know what class you have, who teaches it, and what time it is at. I keep tabs on all of my classmates no matter how many classes I have with them."

"Okay, okay, I sleep through all of my classes, but can we go through the portal now?"

   "Yeah."

"Uh, Zoe. Do you think that If we go in we will both go to different places?"

"Maybe we should be on the safe side. The book said nothing about what happens when you enter a portal."

"What do you mean 'stay on the safe side' how are we supposed to stay on the safe side? Are you telling me that we are not going through the portal?"

"We are going through that portal." Zoe said that with so much certainty that Ben believe that nothing bad would happen and that they would both stay safe.

"Should we hold hands just in case?"

"Yeah." They held each other so tightly that Ben may have broken a bone and jumped in. All Ben could see were memories. He could see a little girl running down the halls, he saw himself, he was standing off to the side, watching the girl with disgust. The little girl was Zoe! Ben tried to look over at her but all he saw was blues and purples.

Ben saw about three other memories before they found themselves on a road, in front of a building. One of the memories was when he first met Vanessa. Ben was walking towards his lunch table, where Paul was saving a seat. Ben backed out of the lunch line and ran into a girl with hair the darkest color Ben had ever seen her straight hair was down, it went to her shoulders. Ben had never seen her before. His lunch tray bumped into hers and her quickly said sorry and that it was all his fault. She just laughed and said, "My name is Vanessa." Ben told her his name and they continued on their different ways.

Another one was on the first day of lessons, the tenth year for Ben. It was Ben's tenth birthday and he thought everyone had forgotten because The Grang doesn't allow birthday parties. At dinner, nobody said a word about Ben. After dinner, when they were walking back to the dorm, Ingro told him to go to Vanessa's dorm. Hen went to her dorm and she asked him why he was there. Ben told her that Ingro shouldn't be trusted and asked him to tell her about what Ingro said as they walked back to Ben's dorm. When he got there People jumped up and said, "Happy Birthday!"

"Did you see your own memories?" Zoe asked. Ben nodded. "I saw memories that I had forgotten."

"Me too." Ben replied. Ben looked at the house in front of them. It was a dark brown color. Ben remembered seeing houses that looked the way this house did in his History class. Then, Ben said something he would probably regret, "How about we ask who lives here where we are"

"Yeah." So they went up to the house and rang the bell.

Sorry for the cliffhanger. I will try to publish the next chapter soon, just probably not today because I have to write an essay for my ELA class. And I have to do work from all of my other classes. There is a chance that I will be able to update today, but later. Once again, sorry for the cliffhanger
