It was a difficult night until the strange man walked up the side of the house and failed. Cristian never would have known the man was there if he hadn't already been awake.
Cristian told himself that it was just his imagination. He tried to believe it as he walked over to his window and pulled back the lime green curtains. He risked another look at his clock. It read 3:04. He opened the blinds and saw him.
A strange man was trying to walk up the side of his house. He was wearing a lime green top and bright pink pants. He reminded Cristian of a clown. But, the man didn't have giant floppy shoes. Despite the mans brightly colored clothing, the man was wearing brown church shoes.
Cristian heard his door open and turned around, grabbing the nearest thing he could, hoping it could protect him against whatever was there.
"Relax, I saw the man too. He is really creepy, with his brightly colored clothes and church shoes." Cristian relaxed when the sound of Carmen's voice came from the darkness.
"Why are you up?"
"Couldn't sleep. That man has been keeping me up. You know he has been here for a while. All day yesterday he was hanging around our house. I even saw him by the school on Friday."
Carmen had ADHD, and if you asked Cristian, he would say that she had way to much energy for a twelve year old. They also wondered how they were twins and she had so much energy and Cristian had none. Cristian could never tell them how he had no energy and his twin sister had so much.
"Maybe we should help him, like throw down a ladder or something he can use to climb up." Why would Carmen say that?! This man was a stranger, and Cristian felt that it was his responsibility to make sure Carmen stayed out of trouble. Carmen was always trying to do dangerous things, so Cristian spent a lot of time trying to make sure Carmen wasn't doing something dangerous.
"Are you crazy?! That man is a stranger! He may be here to try and kill us!" Hopefully Carmen would back down, but no.
"Yeah, and why would he come here just to kill some kids who are twelve?" Good point "Plus, if he was here to kill us, he thinks everyone is asleep, after all it is three in the morning! If we throw a ladder down to him, he will know that someone in this house is awake, and he will most likely leave." Another good point.
"Still, we can't throw a ladder down, what if he is expecting us to throw down a ladder."
"Why would he expect us to throw down a ladder, why would he even expect us to be up at three in the morning?"
"It is actually three twenty"
"Why?! How in the world am I related to you?!" Cristian couldn't see her, but he pictured he walking out, her dark brown hair that slowly turns into a golden blonde color swaying as she walked out of his room. Unluckily, Carmen wasn't walking out of his room. Instead she said, "Okay, you obviously don't want me here, but I could say that this girl ain't going anywhere, like Lauren Daigle, but you don't want me here, so..." She trailed off. Cristian couldn't see her leave, he couldn't see very much past his hand when he held it up in front of his face.
Cristian felt really bad, but he had to stay up a little bit more, just to make sure that Carmen didn't do anything stupid, like throw a ladder down to the strange man.
After about fifteen minutes, Cristian snuck down the hall to see if Carmen was asleep. When he opened the door, he walked over to Carmen's bed and put his hand on her chest to see how she was breathing. Her breathing was light and fluffy, like a cake. When Cristian was absolutely sure that Carmen was fast asleep, and that she wasn't going to wake up any time soon, he carefully closed Carmen's door and snuck back down the hallway to his room.
When Cristian got back to his room, he closed the blinds and closed his curtains. Cristian then fell onto his bed and pulled the bright green sheets and the bright green blanket up to his neck, and looked at his clock. It read 3:47. He then fell asleep, but after he heard a bang come from Carmen's room and his window open.
