Chapter 9

-Light's POV-
I am Kira. I opened my eyes to see L on my chest. He was asleep. He looks so beautiful. What am I thinking? I have to kill him. I have to kill him before he tells the others of the Death Note. But I love him. I can't kill him. A tear started to form in my eye. I tried to hold it back but they came rushing out. I felt L start to stir. He opened his eyes and looked up to meet mine.
"Light." he gasped.
The sound of his voice only made me cry harder. What am I gonna do? I lifted my hands to cover my face.
"Light, what's wrong?"
I couldn't formulate something to say. I couldn't think of an excuse. I had felt true happiness for once and now it will be taken away. L sat up and moved his head to my pillow. He placed a kiss on a still exposed spot on my forehead.
"I'm here for you. Through everything. I'm here for you."
Through everything. I can only hope that's true. I couldn't keep ignoring him. I had to say something. The only thing I could think was the truth.
"I- I am Kira." I spoke softly.
Without hesitation L said, "I know. I told you I knew. I also told you that I will love you even if you are Kira."
I moved my hands from my face. I wasn't expecting that response. His face was next to mine so I leaned in and placed a quick kiss on his lips. I pulled away but he just moved his face closer to mine and kissed me back. Why was he so calm about this? Was his love for me really that strong? I gripped him and pulled him into my body, resting his head in the crook of my neck. I explained everything to him. I told him about finding the Death Note, about how when I gave it up, I lost all memories of it. I told him when I touched the Death Note all my memories came flooding back.
"But you changed me. I'm not Kira anymore. I will destroy the book. I will do anything to be with you."
"We will get rid of it." L placed a kiss on my forehead.

-L's POV-
Light and I got up, knowing what we had to do. He grabbed the notebook and dropped it in our trash can. I opened my nightstand drawer and pulled out a matchbox. I lit a match and dropped it into the can. The book instantly caught fire and completely red flames came from it. I watched in awe. It was somehow beautiful. I had finally closed this case. Now I could be with Light forever.
"What now?" Light asked.
"Let's run away."
"Run away?"
"We could forget about the task force and Misa and your father. We could go to America where it's legal for us to get married."
"Married? You wanna marry me?"
"Of course I do."
He scooped me up into his arms and gave me the best kiss I've ever had.
"Let's go."
We packed our things and jumped on a plane that day. We would never come back to our old lives. We only had a happy future.
