Chapter 20 : Smile

A few days have passed with no clues as to where the dragon was, and since the last time, I saw Oliver he hasn't shown up to school for at least 4 days. Which was a bit suspicious but I was glad either way.

Hailey was still giving me her glares which I grew accustomed to seeing every day. Right now we were at this dessert restaurant everyone ordered some type of waffle while I ordered vanilla ice cream.

Call me plain, but any other option would've sent me to my death early.

Hailey was right next to Phoenix clinging onto his arm even though we were all literally sitting down.

Everyone was sat around the large booth and we just managed to all fit. Lorane was on Dimitris lap laughing every five seconds and Cyrus was just staring at her as if she was deciding which weapon to use on her.

Keiko was playing something on her phone and JJ was trying to make me laugh because apparently according to him I never smile. Which was a lie because I smile all the time.

Even though 85% of the time it's fake. But a smile is a smile.

"Why did the chicken cross the road?" he asked turning his body to face me, I looked at him and pretended to think really hard.

"I don't know JJ, why did the chicken cross the road?" I asked him rubbing my chin in thought.

"To cross the road," he said and I gave him a blank look.

"Ha ha ha ha, that was so funny and original ha ha ha " I replied flatly.

"Come on just smile"

"I always smile"

"I can tell when it's real and when it's not"

"Wow, aren't you the attentive one" our conversation was cut short when a waitress came to set out our orders as soon as JJ's hit the table he snatched a fork and started eating like a starved animal.

My vanilla scoop came into my view and I started scoffing it down.

"You guys are disgusting," Lorane said looking over at me and JJ.

"You should see Dimitri" I simply replied.

In two more bites, I finished my ice cream and leaned back on the purple booth.

Phoenix looked like he wanted to die, and I didn't blame him having a leech sucking the blood out of you 24-7 could get tiring. She kept on yapping in his ear and looking at me every few seconds with victory in her eyes.

I smiled at her sweetly and grabbed JJs unused knife I played with it and sliced the empty air. Hailey snorted and continued yapping in Phoenix's ear

"You better not let her steal your man" Keiko whispered to me.

"We're just friends"

"Keep telling yourself that," she said going back to her phone.

I turned around to JJ who was licking his plate clean and I laughed at how stupid he looked. The doors to the small restaurant opened and in came a familiar-looking guy clad in a leather jacket and black ripped jeans.

He walked in with a little girl that looked like she was over the moon happy. The guy sensed my stare and looked at me and that's when his blue waves washed over me like ice-cold water.

Xeno.

What was he doing here?

I furrowed my eyebrows and he shrugged, he looked down at the little girl as she walked closer I noticed bruises on her arms and one on her face did Xeno do that. She looked happy though.
