It's late in the little town of Meadow. Residents and animals alike prepare for the night, digging comfortably into their little blankets or burrows. But not two of them, on a little small stone cottage with a lamp lies a fae and a little boy; staying up late, crying their tears out.
A fae, a winged creature of fantasy coaxes a little boy to sleep. But the boy refuses, for he knows that if he sleeps; the fae will disappear forever. The two were inseparable, having lived with each other their entire lives. It was a sunny blue day, where a curious little toddler ran in the flowerbed.
Charging violently into the unknown, he found joy in the wind brushing against his face. But soon, he found himself lost. Bawling and babbling nonsense, this attracted the attention of a worried young wood nymph in the summer forest.
At first, they starred at each other; bewildered and too curious to run away, the fae drew in closer. Time seemed to stop for the two youths, it was as if someone had forgotten to breath. The young child, now quiet and perplexed, reached out to the fae.
Out of pure stubbornness, she left herself completely in the hands of a human baby. She enjoyed being cradled, and he enjoyed her company. From then onwards, they met in the summer woods.
They played in the sun, hiding and running around the seemingly endless moments they had together. This continued until the boy turned 12, where he found out... when she, the fae, turned twelve... she would be returned to nature.
Her soul would be gone, reabsorbed, diminished and reincarnate as a tree... and here they were, spending her last hours together in the dark... crying their tears out. The many memories they had, the many days of running in the fields, the many years of each others' company... it all rushed past them in a matter of a second. The little boy, though strong and mentally prepared, had not come to believe that today was the last day where she'd exist in this world.
Hugging her close to his chest, he cooed immaturely, unwilling to let go. While she was ready to accept it, she couldn't help but find herself buried under his arms while letting loose. The boy, already on his bed, had already tucked himself in... but in truth, was far from calm.
The clock struck midnight and the fae, as if enlightened, drew a brilliant light while she rose into the air with her wings. With tears rolling down her cheeks, she gave the little boy one last hug before smiling... smiling... smiling into her death.
