"Why won't you open your heart to anyone?"
The question came cutting through the wind like an arrow and pierced Nafs' heart. It was just so sudden, so quick and unsuspected... although he should've seen this coming; he was just too scared... too afraid and scared to ever do so. "I..." he starts, but stops while his lips quivers. "It's not something a mortal girl would ever understand."
The girl, furious and confused sat unobligingly on his palm. They watched as the sun set, quietly as the spring wind blew through their searing cheeks. The giant whom held the girl cradled and genuinely cared... but he just couldn't risk showing it... risking the chances of the girl returning and quite possibly leaving a hole in his already riddled vampire heart.
As the sun finally disappears over the edge of the Earth, the lonesome Vampire speaks. "It's one thing to fall for a girl when you're a human, it's another thing to fall for a girl when you're a freakishly huge immortal vampire; if people ever saw me, the only thing they'd do was run..."
..."I've been here my entire life, since the beginning. I saw you humans evolve, I saw the extinction of the dinosaurs and most of all... I saw you, a cute little baby trotting in the quiet meadow with two loving and humble parents."
"But... all I ever seem to do look to you humans... or any animals in fact was that I was the direct and living incarnation of the devil, so why would you be so daring? If it isn't rude to ask." The girl, whose name was Beth, played with her hair while she recalled and asked her memories in the fleeting grass plains.
"Maybe if I'd never met you... or if I was older, I wouldn't have mind leaving my heart out in the cold freezing winter for a monster like you to pick up." She hugged her legs together, sulking in utmost sadness. "But no... I had to meet you."
"I mean, of course I was scared! Wouldn't you be scared if a gigantic entity just came out of nowhere and 'rescue' you?!" Naf gave a little chuckle while he sighed. "Oh the times when you had to coax me out of hiding, the many times I've gotten stuck in the hellish blizzard escaping you and pleading for someone to rescue me... only to have you picking me out of the snow."
"It was... a particularly interesting encounter, wouldn't you think?" Beth sat quietly, frown visible and hand aching for someone to hold and cry into. "Beth... I've had seen... met many brave lasses like you... and the first time I did return my feelings... it ended when she passed."
"You must try to sympathize Beth... the pain and anguish I've felt when I knew her passing; left alone agai-" With a scream of pain, anxiety and sadness, Beth gave out a cry that shook the mountains.
"I know that!...I know!!! I... know... it just... hurts..." Beth finally gave in, tossing herself against Nafs' warmth. Naf, sniffling a tear, held her up to his chest to give her a hug. Sobs and muttered apologies were heard throughout the forest.
Naf sat there for a while, cradling Beth to his chest. Using his fingers, he slowly but indefinitely stroked her aching back. He tried his best consoling the little girl he held so dear, but he was helpless against the face of truth. Because one day, Beth would pass on and Naf would once again... be alone.
I cry >:((
