"Kida! Come inside, please!"
I looked back to the entrance of our cave, seeing my mother there. Without saying anything, I simply nodded and looked away, back to the beautiful view of the entire land of the Dragons.
"Kida?"
"I'm alright." I said, keeping my eyes away.
"You're not," Mom said. "What's bothering you?"
I didn't answer right away. "The other kids were making fun of me again."
"Again?" Mom asked. "How long has this happened?"
"It doesn't matter," I said, crossing my arms and placing my chin in them. "I mean, you can't really blame them. I can't even breath fire yet!"
Mom chuckled. "Well, there's nothing wrong with being a late bloomer." She raised one of her talons and ran it through my pearly white hair. "I'm sure that there are much more of them in your class."
"That's not the point!" I yelled, finally turning to look at her. "Mom, I don't even look like a Dragon!"
"Well, that's not true," Mom told me, smiling. "Look here: I see two eyes, a nose, a mouth, some teeth in there," I giggled as she lowered my chin to open my mouth. "A tongue in there too, a chin..."
I giggled again. "Two hands?" I asked, raising them up to her.
Mom nodded, smiling, and raised her own hands, placing them next to mine. I looked between the two of them, curious about how her hands were shaped much differently than mine. I sighed, and Mom suddenly picked me up, placing me on her back.
"Here, Kida. I want to show you something." She said, and took flight.

"Coming up here is the Border Mountains, which mark the line between the Dragon Land, and Earthland." Mom said.
"What's in Earthland?" I asked.
"That's where the humans live. Although the humans don't know it, we protect their land from evil invaders."
"Like what?"
"Well, there are many beings on this Earth. The humans, Dragons, Demons, Angels, Fairies, and other beings that can be...less nice."
"And we keep those less nice creatures out?"
"Indeed. Though, we have not had to do that for nearly a thousand years. However, just to be safe, we still train, so if we do need to fight, we are ready."
I smiled, looking at the towering mountains in front of us. "Will I train?" I asked.
Mom chuckled. "Yes, Kida. And one day, you shall lead troops into battle, as I once did."
Mom flew over to the mountains, settling on a ledge there. I slid off of her back and looked out at our land.
"Kida," Mom spoke, and I turned to look at her. "Just because you may look different and seem different is because of your father."
"My father?" I asked.
Mom nodded. "You see, Kida, all Dragons have mates. Some mates are not also Dragons. Your father was a human."
"Really?" I asked.
Mom nodded. "You are a Demi-Dragon, Kida. Because of this, life could be hard at times. But if you keep your head high and don't back down, you'll be able to pull through."
I smiled at my Mom, taking her words in. Little did I know about how much I would need them later.
