Sam POV
Last night was something else. It was a night of firsts. It was the first time my mama slapped me. First time my sister didn't want to talk to me. First time I disclosed one of my sister's secrets. It was also the first time I realized that I'm my father's daughter; I say whatever shit that comes to mind and not give a damn about how the other person feels. The only difference is that I get filled with great guilt and remorse afterwards.
I walked in the kitchen to make myself some breakfast.
"Good morning Sam," grandpa Eddie said as he walked in carrying a basketball.
"Good morning to you too grandpa Eddie," I said as I finished the last of my cereal. "What's with the ball?"
"I'm gonna show your sister the reason they used to call me Mr Swish back in the day," he said walking away while chuckling.
I washed my bowl and I walked towards the living room. I saw mom sitting on the couch with her feet on Shawn's lap and he was massaging her feet. Grandma Gloria was sitting on another couch busy knitting.
"What about Alvin?" Shawn said still massaging her feet.
"Like 'Alvin and the Chipmunks'? Nope," mom said flipping through pages of a magazine.
"Boy, you better think of a better name for my grandbaby before you get jumped," grandma Gloria said.
"Okay then. What about Akash?" Shawn suggested.
Mom sighed. "Don't worry baby, I'll help you find it," she said.
"Find what?" Shawn said innocently.
Mom rolled up her magazine and hit Shawn upside the head. "Your mind because you obviously lost it. We ain't naming our son Akash," she said rubbing her belly.
I watched them going back and forward on different baby names. Shawn would come up with the most weird names ever while mom and grandma Gloria would come up with better names.
"So you're just gonna stand there and eavesdrop?," grandma Gloria said looking at me which snapped me out of my thoughts. "You can come in Sam so that you'll put in your input. Anything suggestion is better than Shawn's."
I slowly walked in and sat next to grandma Gloria. "Good morning," I said shyly.
"So you shy now? Yesterday you weren't shy and now-"
"Bey, cut the child some slack," Shawn said cutting mom off. "She's just greeting us and you're overacting."
"I'm overreacting?" Mom said with an arched eyebrow while pointing at herself. "An octopus eats itself when its stress but sure, I'm the one overreacting."
"Shawn is right baby. Calm down and let's talk in a reasonable manner. Think about the baby you're carrying," grandma Gloria said putting her knitting needles down as she looked at mom.
Mom sighed. "I hear you mama. I'll be calm for the baby," she said then she looked at me. "Good morning Samantha," she said smiling.
I know that smile. That's her dangerous smile where she'll pull up this fake smile while she wishes to smack the living day lights out of you on the inside.
"I'm sorry mom for the way I acted yesterday," I said.
She just stared at me for a while then she moved her feet from Shawn's lap. She shifted and gestured for me to sit between her and Shawn. I stood up and slowly walked towards her then I sat between her and Shawn.
"What were you and Sky arguing about that had you so ticked off?" Mom asked.
"She called Shawn 'dad' and that he's better than our dad," I said with my head hanging down as I kept fidgeting with my fingers.
