She struggled as she tried to shake off that annoying effect he had on her all of a sudden. He may have been insanely beautiful and he may be genuinely sincere, but they were nothing but strangers, and his random concern for her was puzzling. No one did something for free, it is what life had taught her. He was definitely after something. "While I do appreciate the offer," she said as sternly as she could considering her horrible slurring. She took some steps back and then said, 'I think I can manage myself on my own, and whatever you think I can offer you as thanks, well I am afraid to say there is nothing here!" Sabrielle said grinning bitterly.

Sabrielle did not need or want help from anyone, let alone a stranger in this foreign country. Ville's concern was now mixed with a slight level of panic If she started yelling, there could be a misunderstanding. She looked ready to sprint off or kick him, despite her vulnerable state. In her case, the alcohol perhaps made her act more brazen. Yet he could not just let her walk home like this.

Against his heart, he stepped back and took his ocean scent with him making her close her eyes as if to keep his aroma close to her for a bit longer. Despite her aversion to his sudden interest in helping her, the man was tantalizingly sensual. "As you wish, my darling, but I will, at least, get you a ride and see to it that you get home, safe," Ville said, pulling out his mobile phone from his black trenchcoat pockets. "Why in the hell do you care if I even die tonight?" she said regretting her words, he was genuinely caring, if he had wanted to hurt her he could have. A knot began forming in her parched throat. Why in the hell would anyone care? I'm such a waste," she thought bitterly.

Sabrielle's childhood had not been easy. Raised by a drug-addicted mother and abusive stepfather, she had to fight tooth and claw to keep her siblings as safe as she could. But then her stepfather ran off after her half-sister Alice was born. Her mom got worse, and her neglect was so blatant that it resulted in one of the most traumatic events in Sabrielle's life. She should not have allowed her mother to take Mina and Jake to the store.

"Mom I can watch them here, please," she had begged. "Alice is the only one that needs watching! You stay here and listen or you'll get a beating!" her mother had said as she took Mina and Jake with her. Being born prematurely Alice was only 3 years old and was a little more fragile than other children, but with her mother's increasing deterioration and her angry outbursts, Sabrielle hated leaving her alone with the kids. Still, she was only fifteen, what could she do.

Maybe she should have thrown caution to the wind. Perhaps she should have taken her three siblings and ran as far as she could before tragedy struck. But she could not and maybe she was too afraid to do it. But CPS came that night and within the confusion of the chaos Sabrielle looked for their sister and brother relentlessly, yet she soon realized she would never see them again. They were gone, due to neglect and being left in a locked car under the blazing sun with no air and no water. Alice was taken away soon thereafter, and though the caseworker tried to keep them together,  all Sabrielle could feel around her was a spiraling sense of despair and doom. But more than any other feeling was that draining shadow helplessness and guilt.

While the CPS people and social workers tried to tell them that they would find stability soon and better homes with loving families, all Sabrielle could think about was her failure. Sensing her own incapacity to care for her she begged the caseworkers to place Alice in separate but a good home. Alice begged her to not go, being afraid of not seeing her again, but in her sister's eyes, this was her way of giving her sister another chance at a better life. It was not hard to convince the caseworker though, Sabrielle was not yet an adult and not financially stable or mentally stable enough to care for her.

On the other hand, Sabrielle being underage had been placed by the system under the tutelage of a private institution, since she did not seem to fit or be fully accepted into the families that tried to adopt her. "She scares the other children" or  "She is like a wall, never speaks," were some of their comments. Despite the hurt, she tried to fight for a better life, she worked hard to get through college and university. She wanted to meet Alice one day but as someone, Alice could look up to.

Therefore she rejected all her calls and invitations to meet, and at times she was afraid she would one day lose all communication with her sister. Sabrielle fought but was haunted by her anxiety, manic, and depressive moods. On a whim and once she had become more financially stable she had moved from Eze in France to Helsinki Finland. She was not prepared to run into Alice by chance and wanted a fresh start, hoping to get away from everything. Maybe even her past self could fade away. Yet in her heart, she felt like a coward, and in these past months, she had felt like quitting.

Yet she had made some friends during her time here at Helsinki University, who encouraged her to go to therapy, though she had yet failed to commit. Despite this, she tried and thought that maybe she could get a career in photography, and a small degree in writing started. Yet, her depression and anxiety were getting steadily worse, and her habit of self-medication was not working lately. Two times she had 'elevated' the high she looked for. All those memories of what had happened in her childhood home were still there. Tonight was so bad she had been hoping that she could drink herself to death.

Yet, this guy was here saving her from her own self-pity. In the past, the cussing, and stares she would give people getting too close for comfort were enough to scare them off. But this man was different, and it made her feel so thoroughly confused. She did not know if she was angry at him or somewhat touched by his selfless concern. It was maddening. "There is our ride, shall we?" Ville said, holding the door open for her. She stared at him, confused, and guarded. Yet something in his deep forest eyes tugged at her mangled and aching heartstrings.

So when she stepped into the taxi, she immediately curled herself into a ball. The same way she always did when she did not want to let anyone too close, or when she felt confused.

"Damn this man! What the hell is his problem....making me feel this way!" she thought as his figure faded into the lights behind her...

If you are here, thank you :D
