So this is what it feels like to hold my baby cousin again. I walk into the big house, still carrying a sobbing Kayla. I find my way to the living room, to find my brother and his wife happily chatting away with Kane, Kate, and Jason. I let out a small cough to get their attention.
"Can I set ya down, sweetie?" I ask softly
All Kayla does is nod. Once I set her on the ground she launches herself on Carson's lap.
"Well, all the fast and furious movies are going to start in 10 minutes, but the six of us are going to leave you guys alone," Kate speaks
I nod my head and sit on the couch. Once Kane, Kate, Avery, and Jason leave, I turn to Carson who still has Kayla on his lap. After a few minutes, Kayla sits up and looks at us. Following the look, we each get a slap on the face.
"We deserve that." Carson and I wince
"Yeah, you do." Kayla fires
"How can we make it up to you?" I ask
"You can't, and you can't just show back up after seven years and expect things to be back to the way they were when you were around all the time." Kayla almost yells
"Yeah, and we get that," Carson speaks
"But what can we do to get back what we had?" I ask/add
"Sit here with me, hold me, help me with my job that no one can know about, be there, the list goes on and on and on," Kayla says looking down
Upon that statement, I scoot over and pad the space next to me for Kayla to curl up. She looks at me but none the less, takes the spot next to me and lays her head on my shoulder, and grabs Carson's hand. I smile, we're together again.
"Kayla we, kinda messed up," Evan says walking into the living room
"What'd you do?" She asks sleepily
"The old bed of the truck had a little accident." Evan winces
"Duty calls guys, but you can come with," Kayla tells us getting up
We walk out to the garage to find the bed of Jason's truck all beat up with a big hole in the middle.
"WHAT DID YOU DO!!!!!" Kayla yells
"Well. we dropped it on the floor and somehow we landed ourselves with a big hole." Zane says calmly
"Well yeah, it was already fragile, you guys saw how beat up it was, did you really not see this coming, but this is also a good thing," Kayla explains
"How is this a good thing?" Carson asks
"Step into my office, my cousins." Kayla motions to the computer
Following Kayla over to the computer, she pulls up the new design for the truck and we decide that the old bed getting destroyed was a good idea.
"Get the new bed ordered, I need a nap." Kayla yawns and leans against me
